How can one thought about a person become a never-ending obsession? Charlie did not know the answer. In fact, he was the one asking it.

"Is this about y/n? Buddy, just tell them." Neil smirked playfully, leaning against the wall. The halls of Welton were silent, only the two of them talking. Charlie had to ask Neil for some advice.

" I don't know. I just- they make me feel nervous. Like, me? That takes a lot to do. Every time I look at them I get tongue tied. My heart beats really fast and I become speechless." Charlie sputtered out. Neil looked from side to side, then smiled. " I am sure you will charm them!" Neil's head snapped to the left. " Ooh, look who's walking this way..." Neil muttered.

There you were, strutting down the hall. To Charlie, your presence was something he could get drunk on. Your beautiful aura drew him to you. He smiled at you but tried to contain it to not look too obvious.

" Hi Neil! Hey Charlie!" You greeted. " So, Y/N, did you end up passing that test in Hager's?" Neil asked, trying to make conversation. You nodded. Charlie just stood there smiling awkwardly. " Charlie, it's unlike you to be so quiet. What's up?" You laughed. Charlie cut his eyes over to Neil. " Yeah, Charlie, do tell us." Neil asked in a sympathetic tone, knowing exactly what was up. Charlie mentally cursed his best friend for being unhelpful. "Um, I too passed Hager's test. Yes, I did. Did you, Y/N?" Charlie answered, speaking in a slight robotic tone. You pushed Charlie's shoulder and you laughed, the sound like bells to Charlie's ears. "What the heck, Dalton? Yes I passed, like I said. Is this, like, a bit or something?" You chuckled. Charlie gulped, his shoulder burning where you slightly pushed it. Bringing his hand to his tingling shoulder, he smiled. " Yes, haha. You got me."

Neil was watching the interaction like it was the best movie he ever saw. He was smiling mischievously while his eyes were darting from Charlie to you. You of course took notice to this, and found it a little awkward. "...Okay then. Well, I was on the way outside. I don't know where you guys are going, but we can walk together if you want?" You prompted, starting to walk again while looking behind. Neil threw his hands up in mock surrender. "Sorry, I've gotta meet Todd in a couple minutes. But Charlie is free, and would you look at that, he is also single. Okay, bye!" Neil announced, shoving Charlie towards you and pacing away. While Neil's footsteps echoed down the hall, Charlie looked at you like he wanted to be anywhere else. But in reality, he just wanted to get his feelings off his chest. " You coming?" You asked, offering a smile. He walked towards you, and you put your hand on his lower back, urging you to walk with him. Charlie felt a shiver going down his spine, your slight touch unraveling him. He was glad you didn't seem to notice.

The outside air felt so nice on you both, the wind smelling of trees and nature. You could see other students on the lawn, kicking around the soccer ball and laughing. Charlie looked around like he was new to all of this, avoiding looking at you. A silence fell over you two, but you tried to fix that. "Sooo... how's that secret society thing you guys do?" You asked, looking at him while walking. He cut his eyes to you and then to the ground, smiling softly. "It's going great, you should definitely drop by sometime. Neil wasn't supposed to tell you about us, but I'm glad you know about it. You should be a member!" He offered, looking wistful. You noticed how the orange sunlight made his eyes look like pools of dark honey. How his hair fell perfectly and how beautiful his smile was. At this point you were staring and he noticed. Your eyes fell to the ground, a warm blush dusting your cheeks. Remembering what he said, you responded. "Oh, really? I would love that. Neil mentioned it had to do with poetry, and I love writing. Mr. Keating makes it so fun and I find that it's a good way to release feelings." The word feelings made Charlie's stomach do a somersault. His eyes widened but he quickly covered his shocked expression.

At this point you guys were standing under a large oak tree, shadows slithering over you both. Golden light peered through the branches, bathing you both in uneven light. Charlie thought you looked like an angel. He never thought that someone who makes him want to talk forever about his love would also make him so silent. You were just so amazing and welcoming, talking to everyone you could. You conveyed a sense of home to Charlie, and your beauty was unforgettable. Your presence clouded his mind all the time. So why shouldn't he just tell you? A small seed of courage sprouted within him. Now would be a great time to say what he felt.
