Summer break was one of the absolute best times of your life. No school, no homework, no responsibility. Your parents had a summer house by the beach and you had always gotten your summer reading done beach-side. Sun-kissed and happy, those were the best words to describe May to August. That was until Neil Perry entered your life.
In your junior year of Welton, you had fallen fast for Neil. He claims he fell faster, of course. He simply adored your laugh, the soft way your hair fell around your neck. He clung to every word you said as if it were a lifeboat, which it sort of was. The gravity in his world was you.
That's why when summer came this year, it's like you two had the world ripped under you. Two months of separation may have been easy for other couples, but you guys had a different kind of love. You were the air each other breathed and a person requires oxygen to live.
You parents made you still go to all the ritzy parties they hosted and required you to go outside during summer break. But every morning was dedicated to writing a letter to Neil. And he spent the same mornings writing you one, too. The letters often promised that when you two were reunited, the world would be okay again. You believed that. So as the summer days dwindled down, and the autumn air began to creep in on August nights, you became happier. While kids and adults alike griped of the summers end, you knew your favorite time was just beginning.
The first day back at Welton finally came. Move in days were usually chaotic, full of teens yelling and luggage getting thrown every which way. Luckily you were in the same place as the year before, so there was no finding or getting lost in a rumble of students and long halls. Just you, your suitcase and bag in hand.
As you finished unpacking your room, the sun painted the room golden. The air was crisp and cool, and you couldn't help but smile. You hadn't got to see Neil just yet, but you knew he was here. Somewhere. You changed into comfy clothes, a sweater and a tennis skirt, black flats on your feet. It was time to go hang out with your friends!
Just as you dabbed on perfume and combed your hair, a slam of the door startled you. You whipped around and saw the source of all the heartache of being apart this summer. The brown eyed, painstakingly handsome boy you had dreamed about every night. He smiled. "Y/N, oh my god." He breathed, crossing the room in three strides and enveloping you in a massive hug.
For a while you two stood there; simply breathing each other in. He smelled of clean laundry and paper, just like you remembered. The sound of his rapid heartbeat filled your ears - could he hear yours beating faster? His large hands rubbed circles into your back as you rocked, still in an embrace. After of what seemed three seconds and a lifetime, the two of you pulled back, scanning each others faces. Your eyes darted over his features. He had matured in the months you had been gone. His boyish features had become more sculptured, more solid. You stared into both of his deep brown eyes and then his full lips. "You're so beautiful." You whispered, closing your eyes and leaning your face into his chest.
His slender index finger found your chin and tilted your face up, making a point to look at him. "I've been waiting for this day for what seems like forever. Come here." He said, his last words hushed by your own lips crashing onto his. Warm and light, hard and soft, firm but gentle. His kisses were the best. His other hand snaked around your waist and pulled you closer, which you didn't think was possible. Your hand found his way into his hair and shoulder, feeling all that was only a memory for the last weeks.
You pulled back to breathe and he groaned and pulled you back in. This was a man who had been starved, a man who needed you. He angled your hips into his, and you felt just how much he missed you. You couldn't help but moan quietly as the friction was almost too much. You pushed back, laughing. "Neil, you're so crazy. Oh my..." you trailed off, breathing heavily. Neil ran a hand through his hair and smiled at you. "I'm sorry, I just missed you, Y/N. You're just... intoxicating." He sighed, eyes never leaving you.
You looked into your mirror, fixing your hair and smoothing down your clothes. Neil smirked and began doing to the same to himself. "As much as I love this time with you, I don't want anyone catching you in here." You told him as you headed for the door. Neil playfully rolled his eyes and followed you, en route to the common room. Hand in hand you two walked, toward your friends and a new year at Welton.
