Sometimes, I could hear Milk Cookie's far away voice. Other times, it was the soft sound of waves... It made sense, I could also feel myself being gently rocked by the waves.
I opened my eyes a little bit at some point, to see the bright blue sky... What a peaceful moment...
But... wait... things weren't so peaceful earlier, were they?... What was going on?
I blinked and squinted, trying to look around, and finally locked eyes with Milk Cookie, looking down at me.
His eyes widened. "Oh!... Y/N!!..." He smiled in pure relief. "Oh, thank goodness, you're finally awake!..."
"Uugh... Milk Cookie... What-..." I looked the other way, only to see... Water, endless water. "...What??" We were surrounded by water and blue skies. Right next to us, there was a formation of small stone islands perking out of the water. I started struggling a bit, trying to sit up.
"Oh!! Wait-wait! Careful! Don't!..." Milk Cookie kept me from falling. I only just then realized he was holding me in his arms.
"Milk Cookie, what's going on??..."
"Easy now, Y/N..." He frowned. "Well... The volcano, it erupted... It sent us flying over the clouds!... There was a whole thing with a bird, and... Well, a-anyway-... We landed here..."
"..." I shifted a bit, trying to look down. I couldn't see a boat, how was he standing??
"Ohh, please move carefully...! I'm trying not to tip over...!"
"What are you standing on??"
"Oh... on my shield!... Lucky us, we'd be all soggy and quite possibly melting to crumbs by now if it weren't for my shield..."
Oh yeah... I guess water was probably super dangerous to cookies, right?
"...For how long have you been standing like this, with me in your arms??..."
He frowned more. "...I... I don't know... But the sun moved a lot since we've been here..."
...That... could have been hours!!
"Are... Are you okay?...."
"I'm fine, don't worry..." He gave me a comforting smile, but I could still detect some worry and tiredness... "I'd set you down, but... I'm afraid the shift in weight would send us to the water!!..."
I stared at him worriedly. "...Where's Purple Yam Cookie?... Mala Sauce Cookie?"
With a frown, he closed his eyes and lowered his head. "...I don't know..."
I've never seen him like that...
"...I know they're still alive, though, they have to be..." He said, still trying to be hopeful.
Usually, I would've assumed they're dead. There's no way someone could survive a volcano erupting while being INSIDE of said volcano. But... Somehow we did just that. So who knows?... Besides, I needed to see Milk Cookie hopeful. For him and for me.
"...I'm sure they're okay, Milk Cookie!..." I reached out and carefully put my arm around his neck. It was mostly to make myself easier to hold, but I also wanted to give him some comfort... "They're both crazy strong, way sturdier than me... And even I survived!..."
He blinked a few times as I patted his shoulder, then smiled fondly. "That's true! Thank you..." He was staring at me in a different way now, like someone who really missed a friend, happy to be seeing them again. "...I was really worried, Y/N... You were unconscious for quite some time..."
I stared back at him, feeling myself turning a little pink. "...Well, you're definitely the only reason I'm still alive Milk Cookie... Thank you, by the way..."
