I couldn't believe he was this delicate, I always assumed Walker was really against people being close to him, touching him. I thought he didn't like me at all, I assumed he was tolerating me.
It was now, when we were laying in his dark bedroom that I understood this hostile tone he took with me wasn't about me directly. It was just how he was about everything, but he did care to some extent. Otherwise he wouldn't have told me about Dartmouth or football, he wouldn't drive me to work or have helped me stick it to Piper and he wouldn't be doing this now.
I couldn't remember the last time I'd laid in bed with another guy, I hadn't been this close to another person in years. I'd never felt the way I did with Walker and most of the time I couldn't tell if that was good or bad.
Those back circles were so calming I almost instantly felt better, I managed to stop crying and he just let me get it out and work through it.
"Better?" He asks and I nod. "Is this helping?" He seemed confused, like he didn't actually know if the answer was yes or no. But then again, I understood that this was far outside of Walker's norm.
"Yeah." I mumble and he nods. "Will you talk about something?" I ask quietly, feeling my heartbeat starting to slow down. "I don't care what it is."
"Um, sure." He shrugs. "You wanna hear how me, Mark, Dustin and Caleb decided to live together?" He asks and I nod. "Well, Mark was my roommate first year. As far as random assignments go, I couldn't have asked for much better, we had a lot in common and got along." His hand keeps those circles going and I take a deep breath.
"So, this one night we go check out this party. Some guy Mark knew on the football team was hosting it, a fourth year. We went and it was absolutely crazy, people were nuts and we were having a decent time. After a few hours the cops showed up, to be expected early in the year and at a rowdy party too."
"Right." I nod quietly.
"Well, we were underage and we didn't want to get in trouble so we bolted upstairs to get away from the crowd. Upstairs we ran into Dustin who we found out later showed up with his high school girlfriend, but she'd just dumped him and ditched him."
"That sucks." I mumble and he chuckles.
"Yeah, I thought so." He shrugs. "We told him the cops were downstairs and the three of us ran into the room at the end of the hall. We walk in and Caleb's sitting in the corner with some girl on his lap. The two of them are getting into it and we realize we're walking in on something that's about to get a whole lot heavier. So we turn to go, when we hear police boots on the floor outside the door in the hall."
"What did you do?" I ask, now invested in this story and he laughs.
"We heard them bang on the door and I locked it, just to buy us a bit of time." He explains and I nod. "That got Caleb and that girl's attention and then they noticed we were all standing in the room with them. Caleb asked who we were and what we were doing in there, and Mark whispered that we were trying to hide from the cops." He says and then he chuckles slightly.
"That's where Caleb used to live before we met him, he was a whole year ahead of us and moved in with some guys he knew in his program. So he did us a solid and shoved the three of us into his closet and I don't know where the girl ended up. But he opened the door for the cops and convinced them that he was just trying to get some peace in his own room during the party. They looked around but thankfully didn't open the closet and left."
"Then what?"
"We crawled out and waited it out in his room until all the cops left their house. We talked for hours about all sorts of random crap. Most of us were drunk and making each other laugh by doing stupid shit, which irritated the girl he was going to bang who waited angrily in the corner until she could leave. Then we started hanging out more and we realized we all thought each other were hilarious." He says with a shrug. "So we found a place and decided we all wanted to live together."
