"So when am I going to meet this guy?" Abby asks as we walk home from the library and I snort.
"You sound like my mom." I retort, feeling my cheeks flush.
I'd been going out with Dane for close to two weeks now, granted we'd only been on two actual dates, but two weeks was a while in my head. Especially for me who hadn't dated anyone in years.
I think we're compatible, ever since that whole ordering fiasco he's been incredibly sweet and kind. He's been offering to meet up with me all the time, but I can't. I'm just too busy, I've got a midterm tomorrow and I've been trying to cram for it all weekend.
It's not always easy though, I've got work and my roommates.....well, let's just say they all seemed to have much lighter and simpler course-loads. It was Monday night and Abby had to go back for a soccer practice so I decided to leave the library for dinner with her.
"Well, I don't know. How long are you supposed to wait before you introduce someone you're seeing to your friends?"
"I think you should see if he wants to come to Halloween on Friday." She insists. Halloween fell on the weekend this year and I was grinding this weekend to make sure I had the chance to enjoy myself.
"I'll ask him." I shrug. My apartment was throwing the party, we had a pretty decent sized living space so we planned to host it.
"What's he like?" She asks and I smile.
"He's....nice." I admit and she furrows her eyebrows.
"That's it?" She asks, sounding confused and I blink.
"Well.....what else is there? He's kind and he's really mature and refined." I explain and she nods.
"Just seems like you should feel a lot more than that after two weeks." She shrugs and I shake my head.
"It's not like that with us, we're taking it slow." I explain and she nods. "Plus we've only been out on two dates."
"Is he a good kisser?" She asks and I feel my cheeks heat up.
We hadn't kissed yet, he leaned in for one a few nights ago and I turned it into a hug instead. I think it was seamless enough that he didn't know, but I just......didn't feel ready to kiss him.
"Yeah, he is." I tell her instead. I didn't need Abby in my ear telling me anything more about the fact that I didn't seem into this guy.
I was into him, it just takes time for me to get comfortable.
"Well, you can't fake a blush like that." She laughs. "You guys had sex yet?"
"No, I don't really know him that well yet." I shrug quietly. The thought of having sex with him terrified me, that wasn't a good feeling. It wasn't even in a nervous but exhilarated way, it was in a 'what the hell am I going to do when he wants that' sort of way.
"I guess it hasn't been that long." She shrugs. "You'll have to give me more details later." She smiles, nudging my arm as we come to the midpoint between our walks home.
"For sure." I say, trying to sound confident. "See you later!"
"Bye Annie!" She smiles and I take a deep breath, walking the rest of the way home.
My phone starts to buzz in my bag and I sigh, pulling it out and seeing Dane's name running over the screen. I'd changed it to just 'Dane' after our first date.
"Hello?" I smile, putting the phone to my ear.
"Hey beautiful." He says and my eyes widen. Wow, he'd gone there. "How's your day?"
