"We're almost there." Walker insists, putting on his turn signal.
I feel like we're in the middle of nowhere, we've been driving for over an hour. Walker refused to tell me where we were going, because as he put it 'I would just google where we were going and then it wouldn't be a surprise anymore'.
It was finally getting less cold outside, definitely not warm, but wasn't snowing anymore or freezing cold. I was finally on my last spring break, I'd been dying trying to finish my thesis and schoolwork.
We just got our graduation information the other day, in about one-and-a-half months, we'd be finished our undergrad degrees. That was still insane to me, it's one thing to start a university degree, it's something completely different to finish one.
He'd already started talking to me about the summer, some ideas he had about plans and fun stuff to do. He'd recommended a hiking trail and I pretended that didn't make me wince. I'm not much of a hiker, but I'd do it with him.
We signed our lease for next year last week, for that cute little apartment on the other side of campus. The thought of moving in with him made me really excited, it would be just like now, but better.
He turns down a long road and I furrow my eyebrows. It's late afternoon now, we left around three from our place in the city. Even me packing a bag hadn't given me clues, he told me to pack a swimsuit, but also my winter coat.
I see a large building in the distance. It appears to be one of the only things out here, but it's massive, a parking lot outside and all sorts of buildings that surround it.
"That's where we're going." He says with a grin and I feel my heart race.
We were going for two nights and it looked like it was going to be nice downtime for us. We spend lots of time together every single day, but this is going to be way more special. No one else to worry about, nothing else on my mind. Just him and I.
He pulls in after a while, parking in the lot and I smile. "We're here."
"Wow." I mumble and he chuckles. "What is it?"
"You'll find out." He teases, opening his door and I step outside, following his lead. It's chilly, but the lodge-looking building looks warm. We get our bags and I follow him to the front door.
I step into a huge lobby with modern finishings, lots of warm lightbulbs in every light fixture. It appears busy, but calm and serene.
Walker heads for the front desk and behind it features the logo "Sponjenie". That doesn't help much, I wonder what language it is? As we get closer in the line, I read the smaller text below. "Ease, comfort, together".
Are we joining a cult?
"Next?" I hear the woman behind the desk say and Walker tugs my hand as he steps forward. She's in a neat black dress with the sleekest bun I've ever seen in my life. "Welcome to Sponjenie, checking in?"
"Yes, reservation under Russell." He says, pulling out his wallet. I try to memorize the way she says that word, apparently the 'j' is silent.
"Yes, I see you here, Mister Russell. Could I see your credit card and a piece of ID?" She asks and Walker passes them over.
She taps away on her keyboard and I take in the lobby. I wonder what he has in store.
"Your room should be ready now, your first experience is in one hour." She says, passing them back along with a room key. "Please enjoy your stay."
