the greatest lie the devil told was convincing the world he wasn't real
"Haven't seen you in a while."
"Well Billy you know what they say about unwanted guests.."
Billy gave a cold shoulder roll and looked at Elle, "what nonsense, who dares to call you anyone but wanted and DESIRED guest?"
"I think you might be losing your marbles old man if you 'desire' to see me". Elle finished her sentence while throwing her hands to air-quote for emphasis.
"Okay now just because your a junior now doesn't mean you gotta be a walking bitch"
"Atleast I am walking..."
A few moments of silence where Elle and Billy just starting at each until they start bawling out with laughter. It was a precious moment. A core memory if you will. Billy and Elle always had a close bond with each other. You might not guess at first but it is there within the lines of the spoken word. The truth was is that Billy Black, probably one of the only people that Elle trusted. He had that a certain warmth with him. It was uncanny how much Elle beckoned to his warmth. How she dreamed to posses such a mysterious warm glow herself. But the universe had other plans. It made her cold. It made her cold and desolate. Elle often thought it was a cruel joke by the universe; to lock someone with her personality in a cage and allow the world to pass her by. To feel stuck behind a television screen as everything else happens with not consequential influence by her on anything, inanimate or living. But being with Billy didn't feel like that at times. It felt comforting because the cage bars loosened up and allowed her to wiggle through them. To actually be present in the world around her without being on auto-pilot. It felt freeing. Billy's warm glow not only engulfed her in a feeling of safety but encompassed a bubble where she could allow herself to be free.
She questioned this bubble however. It was weird how Billy was good with weird. She knew there was probably more going on that she was let on because she wasn't a naive idiot unlike a particular fair few. Although just because she felt something was amiss she never really cared for she felt at peace at not-knowing. There was no voice in the back of her head begging to follow mysterious questions because it was not asking questions but screaming at. The screams weren't sentient. They were just screams of pure anguish and pain. So, whilst she believed that Billy and his accompanied four wheels were up to no good, she didn't have the sane, calm piece of mind to follow up on it. It would just have to remain a mystery in the shroud of time.
"So, Charlie tells me your gonna be staying? Is that true darling?" Billy picked up the conversation while rolling his wheelchair towards the backyard of his home, which overlooked a luscious forest. He knew Elle liked the tranquility of the forest so guided them through the thick of it with their conversation.
"I'm not quite sure uncle. I'm sure as shit-
"Language missy."
"Sorry. I am not going back to Renee. Day and night she is going to be annoying the ever-loving fu...fu..fudge out of me and I do not have the temperament for it." Elle didn't like to censor herself but out of respect for Billy she did. Small price to pay for not getting yelled at anyways.
"What about the academy back in Washington? I thought ballet was going good for you? Charlie wouldn't stop talking about your concerts and shows."
"One too many incidents Billy. And I don't think I should continue ballet anymore. I'm giving up."
Billy stopped suddenly. Their walk came to halt. He looked, worriedly at Elle. This was not good. Ballet gave her solace. It give an outlet and giving it up means more than just her pathetic excuse for one too many incidents.
"Elle."
"I can't."
"You are afraid. Elle, honey, your a walking volcano. You know this better than anyone. Ballet was your outlet. It was your way to express yourself and your giving it all up for what?!
"For what Billy! FOR WHAT?! Please tell me you did not just ask me for what! Lets get something straight I didn't suddenly feel the urge to give up my childhood dream on a random Tuesday afternoon. It was a decision based on an accumulated survey done by yours truly." Elle took a breathe, she needed to breathe or it was going to get bad. She needed to breathe. BREATHE is what she chanted in her mind. She needed to remember that word.
"And FURTHERMORE, for your information have your forgotten my blatant latent of disregard for self-control? Shit Billy, I can't even control my cuss words and you want me to dance? ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR GODDAMN MIND!"
and then it started snowing.
