Saving Grace: The Second Story

Chapter 8

I went on my date with Barrett. Clearly I was drunk that night because I got a text from him saying "I'll be there in 15 minutes".

I had lots of fun with him. After eating we headed to his place where I met some of his friends. Alice probably would've died to be there if she wasn't already taken.

Barrett took me home at midnight.
"I had fun tonight." He said.

"Me too. We should do it again sometime."

"For sure. Next weekend?"

"Sounds great. I'll see you then."

"Okay. I'll call you tomorrow then?"

"Okay."

Barrett did call the next day. The plan was on Friday me, Barrett, Alice, and Tristan were going to double date to somewhere. Me and Alice wanted to have a picnic in the park.

My classes started to get easier and easier. I was only on a two year scholarship, which a was enough time for me.

On Friday, we went on our double date. Score for me and Alice. We had a picnic in the local park. Then the guys wanted to go bowling so we did that afterwards. Barrett won.

On Monday, my professor announced that the drama department would be creating a short film, partnering with the New York Film Academy.

Yasssss!!!!!!

I immediately called Barrett.

"Hello?"

"Barrett! Did you hear the news?"

"That you're probably going to star in one of my films? Yeah."

"I can't wait!"

"You better be a good actress. This is a competition you know. Me against other directors not only from my school, but others too."

"I thought it was just an assignment."

"It's way bigger than that. These films are competing in the Sundance Film Festival if we win our school competition."

"Wow. No pressure there."

"Don't worry. If probably cast you even if you sucked as an actress."

I let out a small laugh. "I better get going. Classes."

"Me too. Call you later."

"Bye."

"Bye."

"You know what this means right?"
I was just finishing telling Alice about the great yet nerving news.
"You might be a movie star!"

"I know right! I'm so excited."

"So when does this thing start?"

"Tomorrow. The film directors will be coming over to pitch their ideas. They'll watch us acting out a basic scene and it'll go from there."

"Sweet. Can I come?"

"You have your own classes."

"But classical music is boring compared to what you're doing!"

"You should've picked a different major."

"Got any plans for Friday?"

"Um nope. Why?"

"I got invited to a party. Wanna join me?"

"Why not? Whose?"

"Idk. It's one of those chain invite parties. I got asked by someone who got invited by someone else etcetera."

"Ahh."

My schedule was wiped clean for the next few days. It was going to take a long time to put these films together. This was counting towards 30% of our final grades.

The directors came at 10:00 AM. They had us in pairs, acting out the same scene from Romeo and Juliet (a bit cliché if you ask me).

"Okay, Directors. If there is anyone you would definitely like to be in your film, write down their number for a private tryout." My professor announced.

I got picked for half of the films. One was Barrett's. We got separated into groups of whatever film we would tryout for. I would always be the one who could go as soon as possible so I just picked whichever. No one was wanted for a film more than me.

Barrett's film was the one I tried out for last. His was about a group of scientists who had to survive on an island out of pure nothing. The idea was better than every single idea of everyone else put together.

"Now, do any Directors need a call back? No? Okay, if you could just write down the numbers that you want to be in your film, as well as back-ups."

I was getting really excited. I was positive I would get to be in Barrett's film.

"Okay, if your number gets called please step forward. Directors, if you are ready, you may begin."

One of Barrett's friends I recognized as Preston started first. I was on his role as well as 2 other girls and 4 other guys. Did that mean I was on his role? It went like that for every other director. I was called for half of the films I auditioned for. I still didn't hear Barrett's role. He called 5 girls and 5 guys, me included.

"If you have been called for more than one film, just pick whichever director's film you would like to be in, but notify the other director or directors before joining your chosen group."

I went to tell the other directors then went over to stand next to Barrett.

"I love your film idea." I said.

"Thanks. I want you to play Carly."

"The fashion girl? I don't have much clue about fashion. Give it to someone else."

"Acting. This is what it's about."

"Ugh. Fine."

So I was playing a nerdy fashionista in a film where I get stranded on an island with other nerdy people.
