[31] "I'll play you for it."

Sunday Evening

Nevaeh grabbed a white cardigan and slipped her arms into it. Starring in the mirror, she felt satisfied with the refection it portrayed. The pink dress contrasted perfectly with the white, giving her the appearance she was going for. She wanted to look girly, the opposite of her normal attire. Her usually curly hair was straightened and instead of rocking Jordan's, some nude heels were on her feet.

She was headed to Sammie's house for Sunday dinner. This would be the first time his parents would see her as his girlfriend, not just his friend and she wanted to make a good impression.

Last night, ended on a bit of a sour note because they were both worried about the situation Desiree. All in all, it was still a perfect first date and she felt that they were starting their relationship on the right path. After the game, he dropped her off at home and kissed her goodnight. She missed him before his car pulled out of the driveway. 30 minutes later, he was texting her and seeing silly pictures in his pink speedo.

He was different with her now that they were a couple. She still saw him as the same silly Sammie but she became pure mush when he was affectionate towards her. The simplest contact made her feel like the most important girl in the world. She was smitten by Sammie Coleman. Now she understood why so many girls were chasing after him.

Grabbing her phone and keys, she walked to the door, passing her mother in the process.
"I'm going to see, Sammie. I'll be back by curfew."

Avery Rice, angled her head to the side, analyzing her daughter. "You're going to see, Teddy first."

She never said anything about seeing Teddy but by the way her mother was staring at her, she knew it was going to happen. "Or maybe now I'm going to see him because you put the thought into my head."

"No, you just don't know you're going to see him yet. But I do."

Neaveh took a deep breath and went back towards her mom and settled on the couch beside her. "Ma, I love your gift, especially when you know that a teacher is going to give a pop quiz or when there's an accident on the highway."

"But?"

She sighed. "But I just want to live life like a normal teen. I don't want to know when something is going to happen. I was prepared to see Sammie and now I'm worried about the conversation Teddy and I are going to have. Can you just please stop?"

"If that's what you want, I'll stop. But if it's something serious, I'm still going to intervene," Avery cautioned. "If I can prevent my baby from making a mistake, I'm going to do it."

"But that's a part of life, right? How else am I going to learn?" she questioned. She didn't see anything major occurring that was going to affect her life. At least not anything she couldn't survive from.

One fear that every parent had for their teenage daughter was pregnancy but she wasn't having sex. Even if she started in the future, she would be covered by the contraception pill she took every morning. Besides pregnancy, she didn't know what else her mother could be worried about. She was always aware of her environment and her dad gave her a taser just in case someone decided to act a fool.
