[5] "This is all new to me."
Tuesday Morning
Teddy walked out of his bedroom dressed for school and headed to the kitchen for something to put into his stomach. Breakfast at school would be over before he could make it. Under any normal circumstance, his mom would make breakfast but she had to take his little sisters to school early. Teddy groaned when he saw his dad in front of the stove.
Zeke Coleman couldn't cook. Teddy's stomach protested at the thought of eating something that his father made.
Zeke turned when he heard his son walk into the kitchen. "Sit down for breakfast."
Noooo. Teddy shook his head. "Pops I think I'm going to grab something from McDonalds." He and a few dollars in his pocket. He turned in the direction of the front door ready to make his getaway.
"Your mom made it. I'm just warming it up."
Teddy detoured back to the kitchen. He lifted his hands up in the air. "Thank God for Sydney Coleman." He went and sat on the bar stool at the kitchen island.
Zeke smiled. "I agree, I thank God for her every night."
Teddy shivered in disgust. He pretended to vomit on the counter. "Dad come on now, I don't need to hear about you and mom."
Zeke put the plate of pancakes, sausage and eggs in front of him. "You should be happy that your parents love each other."
"I am." So many of his friend's parents were divorced. "I just don't need to see you and mom expressing the love."
Zeke chuckled. The two Coleman men ate in comfortable silence. The only sounds going through the house was from their silverware hitting the plates.
Teddy finished first and waited for his dad to say what was on his mind. There was no other reason why his dad was still at the house. He could have easily warmed up the food by himself. His dad wanted to talk, that was the only reason he was still home. Zeke was an attorney with the states attorney's office. Teddy hoped that one day he could work beside his dad in a private law firm.
"Dad I have to get to school, I have a meeting with the principal," Teddy stated. He was nudging his dad to speak.
Zeke wiped the sides of his mouth with a napkin. He faced his son. "Your mom told me that you have a little crush on Desiree Garrison."
So this is what he wanted to talk about? "She's cute. It's not a secret that I date girls. From the time I started messing with females I've been honest about it."
"And I appreciate that but you've never messed around with someone so close to our family. Tread lightly," Zeke governed.
Close to our family? That was a surprise to Teddy. "You know her parents?"
"Her father delivered you."
"Really?"
"Yes. It was during your Aunt Sierra and Uncle Ethan's wedding. We couldn't get to a hospital in time, thank God we had a doctor as a guest," Zeke chuckled. "He's also the man that saved your mom."
Teddy observed his father's face become solemn. He knew about the pain his mother went through while she was pregnant. He also knew that he was a twin. Teddy often thought about what it would be like to have another person that replicated his features.
All of this new information was blowing his mind, he couldn't believe that there was a connection between him and Desiree. "If you were so close to her parents, why is this the first time that I'm meeting her?" Teddy asked digging for more information.
