[48] "We didn't want to hurt you."

Desiree didn't know how she made it home. Her journey from Jayda's house was filled with non-stop crying. As she drove, her tears rolled from her eyes to her cheek bones until they found a final resting spot against her shirt.

She was devastated.

In her short time in the world, she had never experienced any pain that could be equivalent to what she was feeling in the present moment. When she was younger she had lost family members and experienced grief during a funeral services or felt sadness when her parents would occasionally argue about Destiny but nothing compared to what she was feeling now. She wouldn't wish this type of pain on anyone.

The world as she knew it was crumbling and she was starting to doubt everything that had occurred in her entire life. Was it possible to die from heartache? She thought the first time she suffered one would be from a boy breaking her heart. She couldn't believe it was her own family that had done the damage and turned her life upside down.

After the short commute, Desiree pulled into the empty driveway and ran into the house. She walked into the family room where most of their family photos were kept. Her eyes quickly roamed the walls. One particular photo from Christmas caught her eye. She was sitting on Santa's lap and Destiny was standing to the side looking down at her. Desiree estimated that she was maybe six months old in the photo. Due to being so young she didn't remember the day but her thoughts started to wonder. Was Destiny pretending to be my sister then or was she playing mommy?

Desiree tried her best to remember her first memory as a child that involved Destiny. The best she could come up with is a day when she around three years old and they were at the park. Destiny caught her as she slid down the slide and later pushed her on the swings. In that same memory was Sean and Yolanda as well so it was hard to decipher who was playing the role of her parent. Destiny was always around unless she was out partying. Sean and Yolanda provided the care to her and Destiny was always someone she looked to for fun even as a small child. As far as she could remember, she always referred to Destiny as her sister and her parents as her parents.

Desiree ran to her room and found a picture that was given to her on her 13th birthday. The word sisters decorated the frame and it was of her and Destiny. They looked identical but Desiree always thought it was because they shared the same parents not because they were mother and daughter.

"I can't believe they lied to me." Desiree lifted the picture and slammed it against her dresser causing it to shatter. Glass flew everywhere. I few specks fell against her hands but she didn't care.

Desiree felt immediate gratification from breaking the picture and looked around the room for something else to smash. She replaced her tears with anger and she shoved her television to the ground. She found any and everything she could destroy. It didn't matter that she was demolishing all of the things her parents had purchased, all that mattered was that she was releasing her anger.

After ten minutes of destruction her room was a complete mess. With nothing left to damage, she fell back against the bed and started to cry again. "How could they do this to me."

"We didn't want to hurt you."

Desiree turned to see Destiny staring at her from the doorway. "Well you failed," she responded as she sat up in bed.

Destiny walked into the room and picked up the broken picture. She stared at for a moment before looking over at Desiree's face. "We didn't want you to find out this way. I'm so sorry Dezi."

"Did you ever want me to find out? Were you ever going to tell me? Because it seems to me that you guys were trying very hard to cover it up. Why did you do it?" It hurt her deeply that instead of being honest her family and friends lied to her. "Who all knew?" It was already clear to her that Jayda and Teddy were aware of it. By the way Mrs. Coleman was treating her it was apparent she was in the loop too. Desiree wanted to who else knew.
