Elijah stands in front of me, the exact same as the day he left this world. The blood seeping through his shirt and down his torso. His face filled with tears and betrayal. He smiles, but there's nothing friendly about it. He steps forward and I stumble back.
Scarlett
Look at what you've done to me.
Ares turns to look behind him, but sees nothing. Only I can see Elijah and the ghosts, my brain surely punishing me.
"Scarlett, what is it? What are you looking at?" Ares asks, assessing my face and trying to find the problem.
Go ahead Scarlett
Tell him
Tell him how you murdered your brother.
Elijah sneers and waits for me to talk, but I can't, I'll be cast out. Ares will hate me forever after he finds out." Scarlett it's okay. You're fine, just tell me what's wrong." He pleads with me and I now realize that I'm shaking.
My conscience wants me to suffer. I'm having a panic attack and I can't breath. The ghosts won't leave me until I admit it. I won't be free until I tell Ares the truth. I have to do this, I have to find peace.
"I killed him..." I whisper. Ares looks confused, but doesn't say anything. "It's my fault he's gone. It's my fault he's dead." I struggle to get out, Ares is faced with realization. He's caught on to what I'm trying to say.
He knows...
"Scarlett, what are you talking about?" He asks, but I can tell he already knows. I have to face my demons, I have to get this out, it's been killing me everyday. Elijah walks closer to me, and I move further back, looking at him cautiously.
"You wanted me to tell you. You wanted me to open up. Please just let me say this, I have to get through this." I say and take a step back from Ares. He doesn't say anything, allowing me to talk.
I try my best to just say it, I let the words pour out of me and I'm transported back to that day as I tell Ares about what happend.
Flashback
~~~
"Scarlett wake up." I am slapped in the face with a pillow. I instantly sit up and look for the person who hit me. "Elijah, get out of my room. I am tired and you are preventing me from sleeping." I say while laying back down.
"Get up...we have a special assignment. Father said we have to go hunting for a faux Griffin." I get up and stare at my brother. This hunt is to test our tracking skills, but I'm already amazing at tracking. There is no point I do it.
I complete forgot about it though. "Mum is waiting downstairs...get into your training clothes and let's go." He tells me and walks out of my room.
I get ready because I know he is going to storm back into my room and annoy me until I'm ready to go. I get ready and change my clothes.
Downstairs, my parents sit at the dining table with Elijah. The servants bring out plates of food and start filling our plates. Elijah starts stuffing his face. I sigh and shake my head.
Little brothers.
"Today's hunt is very important...I want you to give it your best." My father speaks out. "Make me proud, son..." he says looking at Elijah. I make eye contact with Elijah across the table and I shake my head.
He has always stood up for me, but I don't feel like dealing with this now so i prevent the conversation. Don't Elijah, it's ok. Just finish breakfast so we can leave. I say through the mindlink. We have always been a team...even if we argue about the dumbest stuff.
