"So are you going to keep sneaking around or explain where you've been the past few hours."

"Ares!"

"Where were you?" He seems oddly calm and that's scarier than him freaking out. He slowly approaches me and takes me upstairs to his office.

What am I gonna say, what was my excuse again?

"I was renewing a weapon and–"

"Don't even try and lie."

Oh well I tried.

"Um...what do you mean? I was trying to renew a weapon–"

"No you weren't, you went to Robin's Hollow didn't you?"

"No of course not."

"Scarlett, please. I already know, I set scouts outside of Robin's Hollow to watch for suspicious activity."

Oh shit, really?

I didn't notice anything. I feel so stupid.

"I mean, how do you think I felt when I found out my mate was sneaking around behind my back?" He pulls me toward a couch and sits me across from him.

"You wouldn't have let me go. You would have scared the person away for good, and I wouldn't have gotten the answers I need."

"You smell like a guy. Why?" He asked. I forgot about the possessiveness that comes along with mating. And him being an Alpha, makes it a tad bit worse.

"It's not as bad as what you think."

I try to reason with him but he has a blank facial expression.

He is really upset, I didn't think it was a big deal. It wasn't as dangerous as we all expected, and I'm back now. What's the problem?

"What are they anyway? The answers you were looking for?" He questions, and now he's going to find out about Tyler.

He is upset and isn't going to help, I don't want to bring it up now but Ares isn't gonna let this go.

"I had a friend a while back. There were three of us actually, after Elijah died. His girlfriend got taken by Demetrius and he needs my help to get her back." I say in one breath and wait for Ares' reaction. He stays quiet for a while.

"Your help. Why, I'm sure there are many people that could help him."

"Okay so don't be mad..." I trail off and he tenses up. I look away out the window, wishing I could jump out and end this horribly awkward moment.

"His name is Tyler. He was supposed to take me to Demetrius, but long story short he didn't because he couldn't go through with it, and is in desperate need of my–our help. His girlfriend was a really important person in my life too, so I can't just not help. Please, Ares." I get out, my voice soaked with desperation and pleading. He has to understand, he has to help. We need to.

"No."

Huh?

No.

"Why not?" I ask, my mind almost exploded from the straight answer. I try and push my confusion and anger through the bond to Ares.

"I don't want you to be put in danger again."

"I won't be, we have to help him. Ares please." I plead, he can't be serious. He hasn't even thought about it, how could he flat out say no?

"Scarlett, I'm sorry about your friend, but I can't risk you or my friends to help someone who was sent here to harm you." He turns and stares outside aswell.
