The one after the other notifications tune woke Harper up; she grabbed her phone from the nightstand while yawning. There were three teasing text messages from Layla. Sitting straight, she ran a hand through her messy hair.

"Have you asked hottie if he'll be in our class?"

"Did he come with a bowl asking for some sugar or vice versa?"

"Is there a ladder beneath your balcony, by the way?" *laughing emoji*

She shook her head.

Layla is adamant about concluding that she has developed a crush on him. Speaking of him, Harper stepped down from the bed and approached the balcony door.

Shirtless and soaking in the morning sun rays, Steve Andrews sprayed the red Hyundai with a hose.

She strode adjacent to the door, back leaning against the wall. No, boys who look like Steve are way out of her league. She sent 'shut up' in capital letters to Layla at once.

Putting her phone on charge, she grabbed the grey checkered dress she hung on the back of the chair last night. After showering, she headed downstairs and cooked scrambled eggs for breakfast.

"Oh, I'm glad you are awake, we need to go to the grocery shop and the patisserie," Jenna emphasized, wearing her wristwatch and sandals in a hurry. "Leave the dishes; Harry will do it."

"No, he will not," her brother blurts, rubbing a hand on his sleepy eye.

"Yes, you will. Harper, grab your bag, and let's go."

"I have not drunk coffee yet," she pleaded, pulling her mason jar from the cupboard.

"I'll buy you one on the road."

Saturday is for grocery shopping. Harper is quite aware. Either she or her brother would accompany Jenna depending on time availability. However, they never acted in haste.

Harper rushed to her room, exchanged her slipper for white tennis shoes, and grabbed her brown cross-body bag.

Jenna reversed the car at an alarming speed and zoomed down the road.

"MOM, we could have met with an accident."

"Are you kidding? There was no one on the road."

"What if-"

"Oh, come on," she yelled when the traffic lights turned red on her turn.

Harper crossed her arms beneath her chest and stared at the fresh milk designs on the lorry that stopped beside them.

Jenna bought her an iced oatmeal latte at the Starbucks drive-thru, which upgraded her mood, and once again sped off to Stop & Shop, the biggest supermarket in Linton Hill.
