Harper flipped through the pages of a recipe book. She hasn't baked anything in a long time. At the moment, it sounded like the best distraction.

She set all the required ingredients and utensils on the kitchen countertop like her mother did. After combining the dry ingredients, she used a separate bowl for butter and sugar. Mixing eggs and a teaspoon of vanilla, she added the dry ingredients until combined.

"It smells good in here," Harry complimented.

He wore blue jeans and short sleeves shirt.

"Where are you going this time?"

"Out with my friends, follow the drill, call Steve over or don't, whatever you desire."

She added the chocolate chips and watched him stand by the window, waiting for them to arrive. She used a cookie scoop instead of rolling the dough to ensure uniformity in size.

Rolling them into balls, she set them evenly on a baking sheet and put the cookies in the oven for ten minutes. Harry paced the living room, mobile phone in his hand.

"Maybe I'll get to taste one before leaving. My friends are quite late today."

"It will still be hot."

"It doesn't matter. Is Steve coming for your study session today?"

"No, he's busy with homework."

"Hang on, you two get the same homework," he stated.

"No genius, all our classes are not the same."

"Oh"

Harper placed the baking dish on the table and pushed the window for the cool afternoon breeze. Harry walked and grabbed one, eating it bit by bit.

"It's a bit chewy though eatable."

"Thanks for the compliment, Gordon."

"Okay, on a serious note, what is wrong? You're acting a little vindictive."

"Vindictive?"

"A proper word for bitchy"

Before Harper could say a word, the black SUV honked. Harry offered her a sympathetic smile and wrapped five chocolate chip cookies in tissue paper.

"It's for my friends," he announced before closing the door.

"Bye, I guess," she muttered to no one, locked the door, closed all the windows, filled a plate with at least ten cookies, packed the rest in an air-tight container, made some cold coffee, and walked into her room.
