Feng Xin had happened to run into Mu Qing in the human realm, not when they were serving for Xie Lian as Nan Feng and Fu Yao, but as generals investigating the same mystery.
The mystery they were trying to discover was of a ghost killing many children, humans, of course had a lore for such a vicious creature.
"The Azure Goon is said to be a man who went crazy after he killed his own children, after that he committed suicide and started murdering more children for the satisfaction as a Wrath ghost. He's said to live under Azure Lake, where he drowns the children and eats their tongues, whenever the locals find a child's body they always say the tongues are missing."
So, the two were sent on a mission to find this 'Azure Goon' or so everyone said. There were a few more other tales, such as the Azure Goon might actually be He Xuan sacrificing the tongues to animals in the lake, or gifting them to the Calamity Hua Cheng! Though, the two officials believed Hua Cheng could care less about kid's tongues and He Xuan.
"Stop getting up in my space!"
Mu Qing yelled, catching Feng Xin off guard, in retaliation he argued "Stop getting in MY space then, you goldfish!" Mu Qing and Feng Xin argued while Xie Lian smiled awkwardly, he said "Uh, thank you for joining me on the investigation, I'm sure you two generals have a lot to take care of." Feng Xin and Mu Qing's faces softened after hearing Xie Lian and they both huffed looking away from each other.
"So, where should we start?"
Xie Lian asked the two, Mu Qing suggested "Let's ask around for more clues of Azure Lake." Feng Xin cut him off suggesting "Ignore him! We should head down to Azure Lake, in disguise!"
"What?! That's a stupid plan!"
"What? Are you afraid of an old little Wrath ghost?"
Feng Xin scoffed at Mu Qing who looked ready to punch him, he exclaimed "What the hell are we going to be a child?!" Xie Lian's brain had an idea and he said "You know, that's not a bad idea." Mu Qing exclaimed "What?! You're going with his plan!?" Xie Lian responded "C'mon, it'll just be like when we lured out Xuan Ji." Mu Qing sarcastically replied "What? You want us to dress as loving couples with a child?"
"Perfect!"
Xie Lian exclaimed, standing up, Feng Xin snickered while Mu Qing gave him an eye rolled glare, he said "I was being sarcastic!" Xie Lian only replied "Even sarcasm has great ideas." Giving up, Mu Qing said "Ugh, well then what are we disguising as? Little kids?" Xie Lian placed his hand on his chin to think, he replied "Well, I can't transform, couldn't you guys transform into a child, Mu Qing?" Mu Qing gasped offended and yelled "Do you really want me to be the child!?" Xie Lian laughed awkwardly glancing at Feng Xin, "Would you like me to be Feng Xin's 'loving wife' who's there?" Feng Xin and Mu Qing both collectively screamed "NO!" Xie Lian clapped his hands together, then said "But I can't transform into a child, so I'd have to be a wife or husband." Mu Qing's eyes led to Feng Xin who seemed to not mind being a husband for disguise, however Mu Qing didn't know why, but he didn't want Xie Lian being the wife of Feng Xin, even if it was a disguise.
Mu Qing swallowed his pride and responded "I'll be the wife!" Xie Lian was taken aback by this response and said "Eh? Are you sure?" Mu Qing nodded, crossing his arms. Feng Xin yelled "Hell no!" Xie Lian gave a confused face to Feng Xin who said "I'd rather be disguised as a couple with His Highness then with him." He said pointing at Mu Qing, Mu Qing for the first time had nothing to retort in anger, inside he felt like something stabbed his heart when those words left Feng Xin's mouth. After a minute of pain in his heart, he instinctively yelled "Well, sorry that His Highness has more fair looks than me!" Almost immediately they started arguing. Xie Lian laughed "Now, now..." Xie Lian didn't know whether to laugh or cry during this situation, it wasn't new for him.
