Izzy's POV
Being called to the office once in a day already makes you look suspicious, or at least gets you a few stares. Being called twice is a different story. My name rings out in the middle of English class, and everyone turns towards me, like I'm a zoo animal. What could I be called to the office for now? Was Marcus back for more questioning? Did he not believe what Hope said to him, and want to hear it from me? Whatever it was, I didn't want to get up. Speaking of Hope blurting out the 236 word, why would she do that? I mean, I understand why, but it's such a bold and dangerous move. What if 236 isn't gone? I didn't want to find out what he/she would do.
I got up from my desk, and ran out of the room to the office. I was looking at the ground, so I didn't see it coming when I suddenly rammed into someone. His books fell everywhere, and I heard him scoff.
"I'm so sorry" I said, looking up at an emo looking muscular kid. His black hair was like a curtain for his eyes. But the minute he swiped his hair out of the way, he reaveled to me a black eye. It wasn't fully formed, and it was small, but it did look like it happened recently.
"It's alright" He muttered quietly, picking up his books and moving along. I push that aside, as I continue to stride on down to the office. I open the door, and am taken aback when I see Jennifer Justason, Cate's mom. She was sitting in one of the office chairs, that were used for serious talks. It was away from all of the office desks and computers. Her short blonde hair went down to her shoulders. She was wearing a pink sweatshirt, that had a picture of Mickey Mouse on it. A pair of track pants hugged her legs comfortingly. She appeared to still be wearing her house clogs, even though she was most certainly outside of her home. Her blue eyes were puffy, and she had a long face. She was a disaster. A feeling hit me, of sadness. I wanted so badly to reach out, and hug her. She looked like a lost puppy, with no place to call home. Jennifer was someone I knew well, after the many years I had known Cate. When I was at Cate's house, trying on jewelry, I remembered Jennifer came into Cate's room, and offered us cookies. We obviously said yes. It surprisingly took a longer time then I expected. I thought Cate's mom would come up fast, with Oreos, or maybe Chips-Ahoy. But, nope. Twenty minutes later, she came up with a plate full of fresh, homemade chocolate chip cookies. You could tell she put in time for them. They were still warm, and the chocolate was gooey. I saved every bite. It was phenomenal.
"Wow!" I said to Cate, a huge smile on my face. "Your mom made these from scratch? For us?" She didn't look so surprised.
"Ya" She said, as if she was saying 'DUH.' "She does that a lot. Don't your parents do that?" My smile faded. Nope. They definitely didn't.
I snap back into reality when I notice someone sitting next to Jennifer. He's got blonde hair as well, and Cate's eyes. He's got an oval face, and a stoned look. It's none other than Cate's brother, Will. He glares at me, and I feel very uncomfortable. I don't have to many fond things to say about him. It's weird to see him back in Elmsville. He went to a university in Sault Ste. Marie, and never visited.
Jennifer stands up, and smiles. "Izzy! I've been waiting to talk to you the past few weeks and I haven't gotten the chance" She runs forwards and embraces me in a big, motherly hug. Over her shoulder, Will still gives me a rotten look.
"Mrs. Justason, how are you doing?!" It's a stupid question. With the way she looks, obviously not to good.
