Chapter 30 getting there

Karim's POV

"He's staying with werewolves?" Emi hissed at me as we sat on her bed. Her hair was a mess and I could tell she had been pacing. She had changed into a pair of pyjamas and comfortable slippers since I had last seen her. "How did that happen?"

I rolled my eyes as I hung upside down on her bed. "I just told you what happened Emerson." I rolled over so I could look at her directly. "Haven't you been listening?"

"I've been listening." She huffed. "I just don't understand how it happened. You went on a date, werewolves took you to their packhouse, you had a conversation, made a deal and then you had to go to the hospital." She sat on the edge of her bed and put her head in her hands.

"That's what happened." I nodded. I was frustrated that she had questions which had already been answered. "We're going tomorrow. Though, I feel like we have to tell him." Her startled eyes looked at me with alertness and worry.

"We can't tell him!" She quietly yelled as she stood up and resumed her pacing. "Karim, I've known him for years. He'll probably be crushed that I kept something like this away from him." I didn't see that happening but I let her continue on. "He'll probably hate me forever, thinking that I've lied to him about everything."

"You have lied to him about everything." I sighed and stood up, stepping in front of her. I placed my hands on her shoulders and looked her in the eyes. "We have to tell him or he'll find out on his own." She was starting to come around to the idea. "We're going around tomorrow. Get some sleep and we'll see what happens." I kissed her forehead and then left her with a small 'goodnight'.

Neither of us got much sleep that night. It led to me being even more grumpy than I usually was. I hadn't seen Emis' parents in a few days and that was irritating me slightly. I do not remember if they said that they would be away, the fact that it was a frequent occurrence bothered me.

Emi came down in a pair of jeans and a jumper, she had her hair put into a messy bun and she did not look ready for the day. "Good morning." I said as I handed her a coffee. She just mumbled and leant on the counter as she drank the brown liquid. We ate in silence, it was a comfortable silence but there was tension still in the air. "Ready?"

"Sure." She didn't really put much heart into her conversation but she headed out the door. She waited by the car whilst I locked up the house. "This is going to be a train wreck." Her head nearly immediatly leant on the window as she sat down and put her seatbelt on.

"But maybe there'll be no fatalities." I tried to be somewhat reassuring as we headed towards the forest. I would've preferred we walked, but I didn't know if the car would come in handy as it did yesterday. My hopes were that there would be no need for it. "At least they seem alright." I mumbled under my breath.

"You didn't talk to them for long." Emi pointed out. "You of all people should know that first impressions aren't who people truly are." She didn't have to remind me. I know that I come off very closed off and cold when people first meet me. We were going to have to meet more people today. I hadn't talked to any other member of the pack and I could tell they were all in the house.

Werewolves had incredible hearing, I could hear what the Forst's were talking about when I was talking to Ralph. There was no doubt that the wolves had been listening in on what Lathen, Ralph and I were talking about. "I'm nervous." She stated the obvious as we exited the car.

"Me too." She snorted at my words and let me lead the way. We walked in silence. There were creatures in the forest. The creatures were close and rather large in size. Whether they were wolves or not, I didn't know. It didn't take us long to get to the packhouse, we were going rather quickly.

Emi was standing close to me as we approached the door. It opened before I could knock. In front of me was someone who resembled Ralph. They seemed to be rather close in age but this person was younger. I guess this was his little brother.

"Hey, you must be Karim!" He was already too eager for my patience this early in the morning. "I'm Randall, Ralph's brother." He held a hand out, which I shook rather firmly. "Who's this?" He looked towards Emi.

Emi flashed a brief smile and held out her own hand, which he took. "I'm Emi, wonderful to meet you Randall." I snorted again, leading her to whack me slightly with her free hand. "Ignore his rudeness, it's too early for him." I opened my mouth to argue with her. It definitely wasn't early for me. I just had a lot on my mind and didn't trust these people.

"Nah, it's cool. I live with Moss." Noises of protests came from inside the house after those words. The wolves could definitely hear us. Randall rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "Anyway, come on in." The house was unusual to me. I didn't pay too much attention to it the last time I was here.

I wasn't used to small houses, or typical pack houses. I remembered them from when I was younger. I was around eight or so when I had to go and live with my aunt. I didn't quite understand at the time and I still feel like I don't understand half of it. I'm only two years older than Emi, though it feels like a much bigger age gap between the two of us. I was the reason that she kept her wolf.

We were led into the living room, where there were many others sitting around. I counted around ten people in the room but then I stopped counting. Harlow wasn't there. That made sense. I looked towards Emi, who nodded. We'll have to tell him soon.

"Welcome back." Lathen stood up and nodded towards us. "We have a lot to discuss." We made no move to sit down, there wasn't really anywhere to sit. With a look outside, I could see the Forst brothers in the garden. It was reassuring to be able to see them.

"Yeah, let's get this over with. "
