Chapter 6 Questions

Safe to say I won't hear the end of that event for the next month or so. I got a very angry telling off by Emi for not telling her more about it. Her argument being that it was serious and as my best friend, she should know these things. I didn't want to argue with her at all, I'd lose.

That then led to me getting a slight telling off for being late to my last class of the day. It wasn't too bad since Dean had written me a note on a rather colourful post it note. They were a rather particular range of colours, this was in order for nobody else to forge his notes. Despite being late, the lesson droned on and on for ages. I honestly found myself falling asleep during it. Considering the state of my bed, that wasn't too difficult to do.

So Emi and I stood at the gates. If there was one thing about Emi which I wasn't too fond of, it would be that she was a little bit clingy. "Why didn't you tell me about what happened?" The questions aused me to sigh and shrug. It was about the seventh time she'd asked that. She seemed more annoyed then anything, I could see concern in her eyes.

"I don't know, I guess I just wanted to forget about it."I knew that wasn't the entire truth. It was a large part of it, I just didn't think that it was important. "What's up? You've been a bit tense...and why were you listening in?" She looked down to the ground, kicking a stone between her feet.

"It's nothing intrusive, I swear. I just feel something off about Mr.Buckthorn." I narrowed my eyes at her. He was one of the best teachers that we've had at school and she knew that full well. She shook her head in response to the look which I was giving her. "It probably isn't anything major. He just gives me a bad feeling." I was a little bit suspicious, usually her gut feelings were rather true.

"Yes, but what exactly would be the harm? I doubt that he's doing anything bad or illegal." I was into the conversation now. If Emi said that she thinks there's something strange going on then chances are, she's correct. She widened her eyes and shook her head vigorously.

"I wasn't thinking anything like that." That only confused me more. She sighed and looked up at me, her eyes darting around. "I don't know what it is but be careful. I like his good teacher act but that doesn't make it genuine." I felt like that was a warning. "I should be going, dad'll have a cow if I'm late again." She frowned as she started to walk away.

"No petting the cows," I weakly joked, that was one fo the reasons that she was always late home. She got distracted by the cattle which she passes.Sometimes I wished that my journeys to school were that exciting. She gave one final laugh and wave as she continued to walk away. I turned in the other direction and started my rather short but slow walk.

When I got home I was greeted with an intentionally unlocked door and voices coming from the living room. I took my time, I was very tempted to head straight upstairs. I didn't really have the energy in me to socialise any more then I had already. The fact that it was a doctor's voice made this want to escape even greater.

I hesitantly walked towards the living room door with a neutral expression. My instinct was to smile and be friendly, that was how I usually greeted people. This doctor knew so much about my family, It wouldn't surprise me if she saw straight through the smile. "Good afternoon Harlow." The doctor said to me as I entered. "How was school?"

Mam was lying in her bed still, slightly more propped up then she usually was. She looked over and gave me a weak smile. I could see needles being prepared and looked away slightly. I was used to needles, however I was still uneasy around them. "It was alright. Had pretty cool lessons." I sat down on the settee not too far from them. "Did dad let you in?"

She shook her head and put some gloves on. "He texted me to head straight in. Something about finalising plans? I'm not too sure." She had a light tone. She was a rather chill persona dn very good at her job. It was like she was part of the family. If we're in front of strangers we'd refer to her as Doctor Silvia. She preferred to be called Tori as short for Victoria. "He seemed a little stressed."

I found it amazing how she could tell that by just looking at a text. I nodded and looked at my hands. "Yeah he is." That was all I could say on that. I was still rather confused and a little bit hurt that Aiden didn't say goodbye. "How's everything going?" I could see some indecision on Tori's face and fear gripped my chest for a moment.

"Looks like things are relatively stable." Tori said to me as she started to sort through things. I wasn't daft, I knew that wasn't necessarily good news. It would've been good news if she was doing better, if there was an improvement. It didn't even mean that it was the same, she could be doing worse. "We've just got a blood test to do and then I'll be off." My attention turned to my mam as she gave me a smile.

"Then you can tell me all about your day." She said softly. I knew she was probably tired. Her sleep was probably interrupted, appointments always took a lot out of her. I smiled and nodded towards her. I then ran upstairs to get changed out of my uniform. I wasn't a fan of wearing school shirts and dress pants for longer then I had to.It was rather claustrophobic.

When I came downstairs, it wasn't long until I was saying goodbye to Tori. She made another appointment, where we would be able to get the results of the tests which she'd done today. Then I made a sandwich for myself and sat next to Mam. We talked for a little while but I could see her nodding off. I was distracted anyway, I couldn't get what Emi said out of my head.
