Chapter 37 very slow mornings

Harlow's POV

"That's adorable." Was the first thing that I heard when I woke up. I was cocooned in a warm fuzzy blanket. The floor below me was hard and uncomfortable but the warmth was so comforting, I didn't want to move. "Should we wake them?"

"If you keep talking that loud Beaumont we won't need to." A soft whisper came from the side of the room. I buried myself further into the warmness and tried to go back to sleep. "You disturbed him." There was a scalding in there somewhere but I didn't care to find it.

Before I opened my eyes completely, I heard more footsteps coming into the room. I didn't know where they went or if they were still in the room but I was still trying to sleep. "There's some clothes in the bathroom for you." The thing which was cocooned around me moved and I was left on the hard floor.

I groaned in protest and tried to curl up. There were a few laughs and chuckles around the room but I eventually got up and got ready for the day. "Good morning Harlow." Aiden greeted as he entered the room. "You were so comfortable, nobody wanted to disturb you."

I gave him a slight glare and a huff before sitting on the settee. "What time is-" I saw my phone and turned it on to see the time. "Well...I guess I have two hours or so." It was still way too early for me, it might've been different cause I'm in the forest but it just felt too early.

"Can I take up about an hour of that time?" Karim said as he nearly sprinted back into the room. "I've found out some interesting stuff." Abilene and Beaumont were seated on a settee whilst Tempest and Moss were sitting on individual chairs. There were children's footsteps running up and down the corridor.

"What is it?" Tempest said rather bluntly. "It can't be too important." She crossed her arms and leant back slightly into the back of her chair.

"You were wrong about my father." The room was engulfed in a stiff silence. "He was the beta of a pack and I'm his son...so yeah that's a possible theory that we can overlook for the moment."

"We can't really overlook it though." Beaumont said casually. "You could be an alpha that nobody knows about." He pointed out, even though I was still very confused, I just went with it. This was a learn as I go process as far as I know

"Yes, but I wouldn't have a pack. So we can overlook it." Karim said rather snarkily. "Apparently, nobody knew that my father had a child...other than close family of course. They just pretended I was my aunt's child."

"For eight years? Nobody knew who your parents were for eight years?" Abilene had a sympathetic look on her face which matched her tone. Her hands were clasped together on her knee and she looked like a parent going to parents evening.

"Apparently." Karim shrugged. "I spent a lot of time with my parents when I was younger. Maybe they just said that I was adopted or something? "He shook his head slightly. "Either way, we can confirm that there aren't just humans who're working with Travis. My aunt and uncle know some werewolves who are in on it as well."

"So there's more werewolves?" I didn't know why there was a need to confirm it but Karim nodded towards Beaumont anyway. "We'll have to tell the others. I've got a feeling that we'll be making a trip today." The others nodded and the conversation faded.

Karim was uncomfortable, he was bouncing his leg and sighing every two minutes. "You alright?" I asked him softly as we sat next to each other. A small smile twitched at his lips but he just shook his head.

"Not really." He ran a hand down his face. "They kept so much from us. I knew that they were hiding a lot but I wasn't expecting anything as big as this." I lent into him slightly.

"I can't pretend to know anything which has been discussed the past three days." He gave a soft laugh at my words. "But I do know that was wrong, you had a right to know the information. I don't like your aunt and uncle." He chuckled and reached over, putting an arm around me.

"I don't either, don't worry." The atmosphere was lighter but that changed when the rest of hte pack came in and were settled. Karim had to explain what he found again. It also included a few minutes of trying to teach Lathen how to use a smartphone.

"Harlow." Aiden popped his head around the door. "It's time for school." I groaned and he grinned. "Come on, half an hour before you're late." I begrudgingly got up and headed towards the bathroom so I could get changed into my school uniform.

Karim offered to drive me to school, it'd be a lot easier than walking the majority of the way. Aiden didn't have to attend university today but he came with us so that he could head to the hospital and see mam. Karim had dropped me off around the corner and let me walk up tot he school, where Emi was standing.

"Good-" I was interrupted by a hug. I stumbled back slightly but I returned it anyway. "What's this for?"

"Well, because I haven't done it in a while." Her words were shaky. "Because I know you helped Karim, you might be my future cousin and because I know I better butter you up so I can get all the juicy details." I laughed and nodded my head as we headed into class.

The day wasn't really interesting. After I had found out that werewolves existed, I felt like nothing would be interesting to me anymore. The person who sat beside me in tutor and lunch was a werewolf. We avoided talking about that at school but the thought lingered in my mind and sometimes I nearly burst with questions.

That evening we would be going to see Liam, someone from another pack. I was a bit uneasy about it. I trusted Lathen's pack but I'm not sure about others. Would they be just as kind to humans? Aiden said that they'd met before. I guess I just have to trust my brother's judgments.
