Chapter 35 sneaking

I had gotten back to my aunt and uncle's house with Emi late in the afternoon. We entered as we usually did, had tea with the family as we sometimes did and headed to our separate rooms as we never did. It was strange for us to part ways immediately after eating. We were often eachother's only real company at the house.

We used to huddle upstairs in my room under blankets and watch movies until our eyes were sore. We used to dance around the room to some stupid music on the radio. A lot of things had changed in the past few years. The one constant thing was that we were close.

We weren't when we were younger. We hardly knew each other besides the moments when we were forced to play with each other at meetings. We were both probably in such horrible moods due to being there that we didn't really do anything. I started to associate her with having to go to those stupid meetings, something i'd rather ignore.

It was when I was forced to move in with ehr that we actually bonded. I was still a little bit older than her, so I was often put in charge of making sure we were alright. I was the excuse for Emi's parents to go out more often, to have later hours at the office. I grew up around werewolves until I was 8, I was taught a lot of habits and secrets about werewolves and so I taught them to Emi on the nights we were home alone.

I didn't know what happened to my parents, other than the fact that they were no longer with us. I attended their funeral but there was still no mention as to what actually happened.

The mention of my father's name brought back so many memories and questions which I had just shrugged off and accepted. Now I couldn't stop thinking about it. I was attempting to stay quiet as I waited in my room. I was waiting to hear my aunt and uncle go into their bedroom. The two of them shared an office, which was rather convenient for me.

Their routine was like clockwork, if there was one thing I could rely on them being, it's punctual. They left their office and I heard the door lock with a swift click. I stood up and walked towards my desk, which held a simple and plain box. I was a bit of a nuisance when I was younger. I was a nuisance with a strange obsession with keys.

I dug around the box for a while before coming to a few which could fit the office door. Keys were very difficult to distinguish when they were all together. I would have to try a few of them in the door before getting the right one, unless I get lucky.

I crept out my door and into the hallway, shuffling down to the office. It was a little bit far away, past all the other bedrooms and the living room. The office was on the ground floor, near the rooms here I had met Harlow. I could only hear the locking fo the door because Emi and I were trying to stay as silent as possible, and werewolves had amazing hearing, especially when we're listening for something.

The hallway was clear, yet I was still proceeding with caution. It would be difficult trying to explain why I was sneaking around. I couldn't say that I had any interest at all in the building. I had made it abundantly clear I wanted nothing to do with it.

After a few attempts with the wrong keys, I heard a satisfying click as the door unlocked. The office was quite simple, surprisingly. There were two desks and a lot of maps strewn around. There was a whiteboard with a lot of writing on it which was facing a window, which didn't help at all in brightening the room. I didn't have a lot of time to dwell on the dacor as I headed straight for the filing cabinets.

I was a little surprised to see that there weren't any camera's or anything in the room, it seemed like something they would do. Maybe I wasn't looking close enough. I just had to hope that they weren't watching me. I looked through some filing cabinets and pulled out some which seemed like they could be informative. I thanked my luck that I had a smartphone that I could use to take photographs with.

I didn't bother reading anything that I came across. I just took a lot of photographs and made sure the pictures weren't blurred. I knew the photos were safe there. A slight thumping came from above me, someone was walking around. I sighed lightly before putting everything back and locking the door again.

"Alright?" I heard a feminine voice come from behind me, I rolled my eyes before turning to see Emi. She had a concerned look on her face. I just nodded in response and gestured for her to walk the way she came. "I want tea." I groaned and turned around.

"And?" She chuckled at my question as she knew that I was already heading towards the kitchen. I put the kettle on and sorted the cups as she sat down at the island. I slid my phone over to her whilst looking out the window. She wasted no time in putting in my password and looking through the different documents.

She made a few noises of surprise and intrigue as she read through them. I put the cups down beside us and waited quite impatiently. She nodded every now and again and put her hand over her mouth before she turned around and started to drink her tea.

There was something wrong. Her jaw was slightly clenched and she tapped her fingernails on the counter. She was in deep thought. I decided that was my signal to look through the documents for myself.

There was a lot of nothing in the first few, I must have taken photos of them in a slight panic. It was the third or fourth which caught my attention. It was entitled 'KCAP'. It might have seemed like any other acronym that you would come across in business but since I read it backwards to begin with, it was simple to say what it was about.

As my eyes scanned the information, my blood began to boil. I was lucky that my phone was on the table or else I probably would have thrown it. The information was new to me, it was something which cut very deep. It filled me with anger that I was just reading this now.

I eventually stood up and left the house. I left Emi and a cold cup of tea in my tracks as I headed towards the woods. My mind was full of my parents and the pack that I was supposed to be alpha of.
