Chapter 47 Reunited
Harlow's POV
I was tense and worried. Emi had gone back to her house in tears with a few cuts. She told us to trust her, I did. I just wasn't sure if she was expecting to be accepted warmly into the house or not. Aiden and I had called our father to check up on everything. He said that nothing had changed. The tone of his voice became more and more dead every time we called him.
"They'll be alright." Randall had told me. "Karim and Emi know how to handle themselves." I wasn't so sure about that, They had been really quiet whenever they were in the presence of the pack. I didn't know how he would know the true antics of Karim and Emi. Saying that, I had only known Karim for a few days.
"Mam?" I heard a small voice say from in front of us. Melina was on her feet, she demanded to be down about a quarter of an hour beforehand. "Dad?" I looked towards Randall in confusion but he didn't have time to answer before Melina sprinted off.
"Melina!" The child was quickly scooped into Ralph's arms. She continued to struggle. "Shh Melina, we know. They're close." He whispered in her ear. Soon enough, he had a wolf pup in his arms. I blinked in surprise, it was the first time I had seen Melina's wolf form. It was adorable yet frightening. She was fiercely clawing at Ralph's hands. Ralph just chuckled and continued walking.
"You taught her well, Lene." Randall chuckled.
"I feel like we also had a part in that." Channon raised his hand before gesturing to his twin. "We are some of the best fighters in the pack after all." It seemed that these two really could joke at any time.
"Yes, I can't take all the credit." Abilene brushed it off with a chuckle. "Takes a whole pack to raise a pup." I chuckled lightly at the changing of the old saying. "They're very close." She looked around with narrowed eyes.
"I don't know if that's comforting or not." My brother spoke up for the first time in a while. He had stayed close to me since Emi had gone home. He was between me and Randall, who was helping their father move. Eben looked a little bit better now that he was away from the cellar and he was cleaned up a little from a stream we had found. He was still wincing in pain with each step he took. "Which is it?"
Ralph turned around to look at Aiden. "Probably a bad thing. They're not moving any further away or closer." We nodded and kept walking.
I started to hear muttering and snapping of branches once we got close to the river. I didn't really know if we had an actual destination as of yet. The children ware getting more and more anxious, hearing the noises much clearer than I was. "That's them." I heard Lowell whisper to Oran.
"Guys!" I heard someone hiss through the trees. We each looked up to the source of the voice, it was Moss. He gestured for us to come closer. "They can't turn back."He said bluntly. If there was one thing that I had learnt about him, it was that he was good at covering up emotions. "What on Earth happened?" He looked towards Eben with some concern in his eyes. He led us to a clearing, where many wolves were surrounded by hills and trees for protection. "This is too much." I blinked a few times and then rubbed my very sore eyes. The children had immediately ran to their parents, who made noises which seemed rather happy.
"An attack?" Ralph had furrowed eyebrows. "They must be much bigger than we thought." He had went over to a gray wolf, one who seemed significantly injured and he looked them over. "We can't do much here."
"We can't go home either."Abilene pointed out hurriedly. "There's nowhere for us to go. We can't just have six wolves accompany us to the city." I shook my head and looked towards my brother, whose eyes were trained on the ground.
"How do wolves heal anyway?" They glanced at me slightly, I almost apologised for speaking when I was answered.
"Werewolves heal in a similar fashion to humans." Ralph started. "Bandages and disinfectants are useful for us. We look after each other until we can change back." I nodded as he gave me the information. "It's also a little bit faster then humans and then the speed depends on who you are."
I nodded, even though some o it didn't make much sense to me. Looking at the wolves made my heart melt a little bit. They were with their children, even if you had walked upon this group of wolves in the wild, you would be able to tell that they're a family.
Lowell and Oran had shifted into their wolf forms and were snuggling up to Beaumont, who looked worriedly at his partner. The two pups looked a lot calmer now that they were with their parents. Melina had done the same to her mother and father, both of them hugged her close to them, protectively and lovingly.
Moss was holding onto Channon and Channing's hands the entire time. It made it clear which wolf was Tempest, she had dark fur. The families were like clusters in the clearing, sticking by each other but still being part of the bigger pack.
We got caught up on what happened, in the safety of the clearing. I didn't know where we were, I was totally lost but that wasn't new. "I have an idea." I mumbled to Aiden. The idea quickly spewed from my lips before I could stop them.
"That might work." Aiden mumbled back. "I think they agree." I looked behind me to see the majority of the pack staring at me with curious eyes. I blushed lightly and bit my lip. I had forgotten hey had enhanced hearing.
"It couldn't hurt." Ralph shrugged and looked towards the others who I would be able to understand.
"Things can't get much worse." Randall shrugged.
"Alright." I nodded and took Aiden's phone. I thanked my good memory as I dialled the number. "Hello? Mister Buckthorn? It's Harlow."
