Chapter 46 Family relations

Karim's POV

I bit my lip so hard that it bled. I couldn't believe that this was happening but I couldn't deny it with the constant reminder of the searing pain. Lathen was getting it far worse than I was. I hoped that this was because I was related to the pack, but I couldn't convince myself of that either.

"Just you wait until you see what we did to the4 others." Travis taunted us with a psychotic grin. "They're in far worse shape than the both of you." He was bragging. I bit back the remark which was begging to leave my lips. "Nothing? Pity." He then proceeded to throw more acid onto our skin.

This happened a few more times, the constant bragging and taunting becoming nearly as painful as the acanite. The cycle was soon stopped when we heard frantic knocking on the door. Travis groaned and shouted. "What is it?" As the door swung open.

I was surprised to see my aunt coming through the door with tears in her eyes. She tried not to show it but she was scared. I knew the expression all too well. "Travis." She hissed lightly before gesturing for him to move over to the door.

"What is it?" Travis whispered when they thought they were out of ear-shot. I would've smirked in any other situation. He must have forgotten what being a wolf was like.

"He's not with them." She shook her head and gestured towards me. "He's got no part in this, he doesn't know the other pack." I tried to keep my expression as neutral as I could, something I was rather used to.

"What do you mean?" Travis crossed his arms and tilted his head. "He was with them. He knew them. They talked." His words were sharp , as though he was trying to sting her with them.

"Emerson came back and explained." I blinked a little bit in shock at her words. "The two of them had nothing to do with the petition or anything. They were just the human's friends." Travis scoffed and moved over so he was standing in front of me. I stared him straight in the eyes. I wasn't going to back down, I haven't so far and I don't plan on it.

"What do you say?" Travis' smile still hadn't left his face. "You know them?" I shook my head only slightly. "You know, I don't believe you." He reached towards me and grabbed my chin, I pulled my head back harshly. "Be like that then." He stood up again and headed towards another bucket.

"Travis, he's my nephew." I had never seen my aunt beg, especially not for my welfare.''You have a grudge against Lathen's pack, not your own." Her words gained more and more confidence as she went on.

"I don't have a pack." Travis snapped. "Because of them!" This lot of Acanite must have been much more concentrated as I screamed out when it made contact with my bare skin. The thought about how this would heal crossed my mind but I couldn't dell on it.

"Travis!" My aunt screeched and rushed over to me. I couldn't hide my shock anymore. She seemed very willing to put me in here, in fact she was the one who did it. "Stop." Her words were strong and demanding.

"You can't tell me when to stop." Travis said slowly as he continued to look away from her. "That is not within your power or status." He pulled something from his pocket, a knife. My heartbeat quickened, I didn't want my aunt to get hurt. She didn't treat me the best, nor did she act like the best mother to Emi, we'd be lost without her.

He didn't make any advancements on ehr thought. Instead he turned back to me and swiftly slashed at my face. I hissed and gritted my teeth as the blade caught my skin and cut through it. It stung just like the acanite. The silver blade making much more damage than a regular knife would.

I was forced to look down at the ground so I didn't know what happened. All I heard was a loud bang followed by a harsh thump on the floor. Lathen chuckled weakly. I looked up at him curiously, he was in pain and chuckling. I tried to look for what happened but whatever it was, was out of my line of sight.

"That's done." My aunt dusted her hands off and came closer to me. "Dang it Karim." She said as she looked ME over. "What are we going to do with you?" I felt anger bubbling inside but I didn't say anything. She cut the flowers from my wrists and legs. It was rather painful for me since she avoided touching the plant herself, causing the blade to nip me in a few places. "Let's get you out of here."

"No." I tried to protest. She was trying to help me up as I looked over towards Lathen. "What-" My words were interrupted by coughing. It really wasn't good for werewolves to be int he presence of those torture tools.

"Lathen can handle himself." My aunt said firmly with narrowed eyes. "He's nto your concern." Her tone was sterner. I gave Lathen one last look before I was hurried out of the room and into the hall. There were no werewolves around at this point. "We'll get you home and cleaned up."

I just went with what she was talking about. My thoughts were concentrated on Harlow, whether or not he was alright in that cell. I wondered if he'd torn his hair out or drilled a hole in the floor with his pacing. I also worried about Emi, though somehow she had contact with her mother. She must be alright, they wouldn't hurt her too badly. Then again, that's what I thought about myself as well.

I was taken to the house that I'd lived inf or the past nine years. I was brought through the back door and up to my room, avoiding anyone who may be in the house. Emi was sitting on my bed. She immediately rushed to me and started looking me over.

"Oh my gosh, what happened? How? Nevermind." She wrapped her arms around my neck and gave me a hug. I winced but managed to keep my hiss to myself. "I'm so sorry. Let's get you cleaned up." I hadn't noticed that my aunt had left the room until I was spun around, nearly tripping over.

"What happened?" I asked with furrowed eyebrows. I could see her in the mirror, she had a grin on her face and held a finger to her lips. I nodded silently as I was then dragged to my bathroom. It was going to be quite a difficult few hours.
