Tobias

This felt right, my arms around hers, swaying to an unfamiliar song. The rain soaking us, relaxing us so we melted in each other's arms.

I kissed her forehead, feeling her tremble from the chill of the rain.

"We should go, before you catch a cold." I murmur.

I feel her nod against my chest.

I scoop her up and placed her in the passenger seat, wrapping her in my leather jacket.

I climb in the truck, rolling up the windows, and turning off the radio.

"Wanna go to my place and order pizza or something?"

I untuck her hair from my jacket, so her back wouldn't be anymore soaked.

"Okay." She whispers. I can see she is still in pain. Her eyes are dull, and I bet her shaking was not just from the chill of the wind and rain.

I tilt her chin up, staring in her eyes, drinking in her features, "Promise me you will eat."

"I'm not that h-"

"You need to eat."

"Tobias-"

I cut her off, "I know it hurts. My dad had to go to jail, my mom was murdered in front of me. Trust me, starving yourself does not help. I know."

"I promise." She nods.

"Thank you." I kiss her cheek.

The rest of the ride to my place was silent. It was when we were in my driveway she asked the dreaded question.

"Your dad killed your mom?"

I nodded.

"Did you get hurt?"

I nodded again.

She sighed softly, but crawled over in my lap.

She placed her head on my chest, and put her arms around me.

I placed my cheek on the top of her head.

"Wait, you said you visited your mom in the hospital she was working at. "

"Her name is Evelyn. She adopted me when the incident happened."

"How old were you?"

"Thirteen."

"You must've gone through a hard time, too."

"I just remember the many suicide attempts."

I shouldn't have said that. She probably thinks I'm a messed up freak.

"I think I slept with over half the high school. I think both of our pain releaving methods were pretty stupid, but you got help, right?"

I nodded, and smiled softly.

She leaned back, hitting the horn on the steering wheel, causing us to both jump.

"Sorry." She laughed.

I laughed too, and opened my door, picking her up and carrying her upstairs.

I turned on the bath for her.

"Okay. You take a bath, my robe is on the door if you want to put that on, or grab a t-shirt from the drawers. I'll order pizza. Take your time." I kiss her head and walk downstairs.

After ordering the pizza, I go to pick out a movie, but something heavy falling upstairs distracts me.

I race up there and knock on the door, "You okay?"

"Yeah, just knocked a bottle over." Her voice was strained and instantly I knew she was crying.

I opened the door. She was curled in the tub, her body shaking with sobs.

I picked her naked, frail body up and wrapped her in my robe, carrying her to the couch. My pants were starting to strain from the feeling of her soft skin against me.

I wrapped a blanket around her, tightly, just letting her cry. Sadness radiated off of her, making my heart wrench.

I couldn't stand her crying.

"Hey beautiful, what do you call a fake noodle?"

Her crying stopped, and she stared at me with big eyes. She looked at me like I was crazy, still sniffling.

"What?" She asked confused, as if she didn't here me.

"An impasta." I laugh.

She just stares at me like I'm a unicorn or something.

"Why do fish live in salt water?"

Her eyebrows creased.

"Because pepper makes them sneeze." I laugh hard and she lets out a giggle.

That's a better sound.

"What do you call a guy who never farts in public?"

She shrugs, a now prominent, bright smile etched on her face.

"A private tutor." I laugh really hard, and she does too.

"I needed to make you laugh." I whisper.

"Success." She murmurs, kissing my cheek.

"Thank you, Tobias."

I nodded.

"I think the pizza is here." I whisper, just as the doorbell rings.

"Ya don't say." She giggles.

"Stay." I command like I'm talking to a dog.

"Nope." She giggles again, and moves sides on the couch.

I sigh dramatically, and opened the door. The pizza was paid for online so I just took it and shut the door.

"I think this is pizza." I joked.

"Maybe, who knows." She laughs.

I love that sound.
