Days passed, Seonghwa took it to practice his magic more than anything else, after all, it was fun and fascinating. The classes were going usually well. He scored well. The camp was a good place, Seonghwa had decided. It became a routine to wake up early, go for the classes, hang out with the friends, and stay up late doing some homework or listening to Yunho sing.

The only thing that wasn't going well, however, was the attacks. Ever since he had seen the student fight a Nefari with his own eyes, Seonghwa could not stop thinking about it. His thoughts often found the film where the Nefari had pounced on the student, he could still hear the scream. He thought about how when he was still contemplating on whether to help or not, San had jumped in front of them without thinking twice. Seonghwa wondered if he deserved to be some kind of hero, after all, he wasn't as brave as San was. Then the train of thought often used to find the prophecy. The war and blood, Seonghwa thought, will he be able to bare all of it?

The one thing that made him feel it would all be alright was Hongjoong. He had a smile that made the stars glow brighter. His hair that shined golden in the dim light of torches, looked even prettier in the sun. He laughed a lot, and that made him more beautiful. Seonghwa loved it when he laughed at his jokes, it made him feel like a better self. Once, Seonghwa visited his dorm, in the fire lounge, Hongjoong's bedpost was decorated with numerous paintings and sketches and what not. Flowers, the view out of the classroom window, the hill, the main school, the cottage of weapons, all of these were made into beautiful paintings and arranged neatly all over the place. Seonghwa understood why he always had some kind of paint or pigment on his hands. Seonghwa often wondered why Hongjoong had no friends, except Yunho. When Hongjoong could talk about so many things in one flow, it was never boring with him. He made up stories about people during meals, making Seonghwa laugh. They had become quite close now, to the point where they shared inside jokes, or to the point where one wouldn't hesitate to call the other an idiot.

There's things to pay for when you buy something good. Same way, everything wasn't cool with Hongjoong, Seonghwa wanted to spend time with him, but nowadays, he was often called by Daeshim, even between classes. Seonghwa didn't want to get into his business, but when it became frequent, he couldn't help but ask. Unfortunately, there was never a clear response from Hongjoong. He shrugged the topic off often.

Seonghwa was sitting in the library, writing some alchemy guides he was given as homework. Jongho, Mingi, Wooyoung and San accompanied him. Yes, San too. Wooyoung dragged him along everywhere, and Seonghwa respected him for being so patient. Moreover, Seonghwa was fascinated by San, his face was blank most of the times, but the eyes were sharp and intelligent. And on those rare occasions he spoke, he sounded like he'd never left.

A light tapping of hands on the table made Seonghwa look up. He saw Yunho and Yeosang, both panting, looking like they saw a ghost in the bright light of day. Yunho fanned himself, as if to calm down, while Yeosang took a seat.
"Y'all won't believe this!" Yunho exclaimed and sat down.
Mingi gestured him to keep his voice low, looking done already.
"What?" Wooyoung asked, equally curious.
"Kim Damyeong!" Yunho said and took in a quick breath, "Kim Damyeong! She escaped! It's been two months and they are reporting the camps only now!"
Seonghwa couldn't make sense of what he was saying, but he looked around to see San blink, Mingi and Jongho widen their eyes.
"What? Who the fuck is that?" Wooyoung asked.
"That can't be." Mingi said.
"It's true." Yeosang said.
"Well, will someone tell me who is that?" Wooyoung asked again.
"Kim Damyeong was a murderer. She was an evil magician. She killed a hundred people at once." Yeosang explained.
Wooyoung frowned, "Why would she do that?"
"Well, little guy, people grow greedy when they once get what they want. Damyeong wasn't born an elemental magician, she wanted the powers herself. And well, you can't force the elements to follow your orders, it angers them. But who knows how, Damyeong managed to get powerful from simple magic, she did a lot of unacceptable things, until she was finally arrested."
"I didn't know that." Jongho whispered.
"Because you are stupid," Mingi said flatly, then turned to Yeosang, "But wasn't she sentenced a lifetime of jail?"
"That's what, it's only been ten years and she's escaped." Yeosang said. "They are looking for her, loads of gold promised to anyone who brings her dead or alive."
"You guys want to find her for the gold?!" Jongho asked.
"No, stupid." Mingi said. "But what I am concerned about is, the attacks." He looked at Yeosang.
Yeosang nodded slowly, "I thought so too."
"Okay smarties, what attacks and how is Damjeong related to that shit?" Wooyoung asked.
"Damyeong." Yunho corrected him, "And we think that she is behind the Nefari attacks on the camp."
"This is why you shouldn't overthink. It's just a coincidence, it's a nature of Nefari to attack us. That's why we train here, don't we? And what personal shit does she have with our camp? Forget it." Wooyoung said.
No one spoke anything, Mingi and Yeosang exchanged a look. Seonghwa got a feeling they knew something.
"She trained here." San spoke quietly.
Wooyoung widened his eyes and turned to him.
"What?"
"Kim Damyeong. She was a student here." San explained in his low voice.
"That's what gained the fire house its wrong names. She was another dark magician from the fire house." Yunho said.
