Seonghwa sat on the cafeteria table, eating with his friends. They were talking about something, but Seonghwa's mind wandered some where else: Hongjoong. They had the last class together, however, Hongjoong was called by Seojoon in the middle of it. Which was kind of strange, as it was usually Daeshim. Seonghwa didn't want be nosy, but what made him concerned was the worry on Hongjoong's face after those meetings. He was so frustrated that Seonghwa had to call him severely times to get his attention.
Seonghwa ate the little rice left in his plate, he didn't have an appetite, but he also didn't want the food to go waste. He told his friends he'll be off, most of them just acknowledged him, but Yeosang eyed him in a weird way when he stood up. Seonghwa raised an eyebrow at the boy, Yeosang shook his head and went back to eating.
Seonghwa had no idea what he was going to do, he had no homework left, nor did he have any class at the time. He decided to go to the Weapon forging area. He was working on a bow and arrow nowadays. He made his way towards the cottages, but he stopped in the mid of it, for he saw the golden haired boy sitting under a tree. Seonghwa turned towards him, the tree was one of their usual hang out spot, mainly because no one roamed towards that side of the camp, partially because of the shade of the tree. Hongjoong was sitting under the tree, his one knee close to his chest, while the other was stretched out. The thing was that, he was doing nothing. Which was unusual, Hongjoong was always upto something: drawing, sketching, painting, reading or whatever. Seonghwa went towards him.
"Hey!" Seonghwa exclaimed.
Hongjoong flinched at the voice, but recovered quickly and put on a smile, "Hey!"
"What're you doing here?" Seonghwa asked.
"Um, nothing?" Hongjoong said.
"Don't have to eat?" Seonghwa asked.
"Not hungry." Hongjoong replied and stared off into distance.
Seonghwa sighed. Silence stretched between them, until Seonghwa finally asked what he wanted to since days.
"Why do they keep calling you?" Seonghwa asked.
"Who?" Hongjoong turned.
"Daeshim and Seojoon. What do they want?"
"Nothing. Just things related to academics." Hongjoong sighed.
"You can't lie. You don't know how to."
"For real."
"Nope. What's going on?"
Hongjoong sighed, he waited for a moment before speaking again.
"They think I should improve my defence skills." Hongjoong said and stood up.
"Kim Hongjoong," Seonghwa stood up too, "Stop lying. Please." He said it more in demanding way than a request.
A scowl of frustration appeared on Hongjoong's face. "Why do you care so much? It's nothing."
"Is that even a question. I see the way you act after those meetings. There's something troubling you and you don't have to deal with it alone!" Seonghwa was getting mad now.
Hongjoong met eyes, "It's alright, you're just overthinking."
"No I'm not."
"You are. You don't have to care so much! Why do you even bother-"
"Because I fucking like you!" Seonghwa said.
Hongjoong turned towards him, looking absolutely stratled. But the expression soon turned into a sad smile, he tilted his head and flung his arms around Seonghwa. "Seonghwa..." he said, his voice soft.
"I like you too, in fact, I have been in love with you ever since I first saw you, in the robes, you looked like some prince." Hongjoong spoke slowly, in a nostalgic voice.
Seonghwa couldn't help but smile, to be honest, he knew this moment would come soon, he also knew of Hongjoong's answer, they were that close.
Seonghwa breathed a sigh of relief. "Tell me, please, what's going on?" Seonghwa requested.
Hongjoong pulled apart and sat down, leaning onto the tree bark, Seonghwa sat beside him.
"Kim Damyeong," Hongjoong said and made a stoic face, "they think I have information on Kim Damyeong."
"What?! Why?" Seonghwa exclaimed.
"Well, Seonghwa, because she is my mom." Hongjoong said flatly.
Seonghwa was absolutely stunned for a moment. "You, wait- what? You can't-"
"I know, hard to believe. But that's how it is. I hate her too." Hongjoong raised his hands.
"No way but how-"
"Yeah, no one knows, only Daeshim and Seojoon."
"No, I mean-"
"Shh. Listen."
Seonghwa nodded.
"She married my father when she was at the peak of her power. They had me, but then it all got destroyed, mom was arrested, and my father...he..he just married another woman. I lived with them. The so called 'step mom' already had a kid. And who knows why, dad began choosing favourites too. I was excluded, from what I thought was my own family. I don't know how I lived there, but I had it enough when I was seven, I ran away."
Seonghwa listened quietly, taking in the details of the others life.
"I have no memory of how I got here. But Daeshim says he found me in the normal world, getting chased by a Nefari. So he brought me here. He was surprised at the details of my parents as well, but he decided to train me. Well, you know, camp is the only place I'd ever call home."
"So..like you've been at the camp since seven?" Seonghwa asked.
"Yep, right."
"I am sorry.."
"Why? You don't have to be, instead, thanks for coming here."
"But that's absolute nonsense, why do they think you have any contact of her now, you probably haven't seen her since then, have you?"
"Nope, not once. And that's what! I have no idea what she plans on doing now."
"It must be so hard-"
"Nah, it isn't." Hongjoong looked at him and smiled.
Seonghwa smiled back.
"Can I call you Sugar?" Hongjoong asked.
"Sure," Seonghwa laughed, "but only when we're alone."
Hongjoong laughed, "Alright!"
"I'll call you Sunshine."
