"It's just seven, wanna eat right now?" Mingi asked, as they made their way out of the cottage.
"Not hungry, what do you usually do?" Seonghwa asked.
"I am gonna wash my clothes."
"Then let's do that."
"Sure."
Seonghwa and Mingi made their way to the water lounge. The grass that was wet because of the rain was now drying. Seonghwa saw other students make their way out of the main school.
The dorm looked busy too, students were filing in, some were already heading outside. Seonghwa saw people make their way to the common room. Seonghwa decided that it wasn't that bad of a place, after all. They kept their books at place, grabbed the dirty clothes and headed out. They made their way to the lake.
The lake was reflecting the sunset at this time, it looked beautiful. They went over to the right side of the lake, there were stone steps that slowly melted into rocks and then the lake. Mingi climbed down the stairs, Seonghwa followed. He sat on one of the low rocks. He laid out his shirt on the flat rock, splashed some water on it, and started rubbing the brush on it. Seonghwa started doing the same. Now, he would lie to himself if he didn't admit it, but touching or feeling water did feel different since he came to the camp. It didn't seem like a mere substance anymore, it felt familiar, too familiar. Water reminded Seonghwa of home more than his home.
"No one's here right now, it's not the general time for laundry?" Seonghwa asked.
"No, that's why I do it at this time. To avoid people." Mingi smiled at him.
A silence took over, they busied themselves in washing the clothes. After a while, Seonghwa finally asked,
"Hey, like perhaps you don't remember, but when you came here first, did water feel different?" Seonghwa asked cupping some water in his hand.
"What do you mean?"
"Um, I don't know, water is different since yesterday, it's something else, um, I don't know it's-" Seonghwa stopped when he saw Mingi looking at him wide eyed.
"What?" Seonghwa asked.
"Does it feel more familiar or something?" Mingi asked.
"Yes! Correct! That's it, it's familiar." Seonghwa replied.
Mingi gasped, "Oh my god, I should have known."
"Known what?"
"You listen, hold out your hand like this." Mingi said as he demonstrated, holding his palm out in air.
Seonghwa did as he was told.
"Now call water in your hand." Mingi instructed.
"What?!" Seonghwa scoffed, confused.
"Call water, call it over to your palm." Mingi said.
"What do I say?" Seonghwa asked.
"Oh no, do it inside your mind, will the water to come over." Mingi told him.
Seonghwa did as told, he called water over inside his head, he even tried imagining water coming to him, but nothing happened.
"What are we even tryna do?" Seonghwa asked.
"Shh, close your eyes if that helps you focus. Just do it." Mingi sounded desperate.
Seonghwa obeyed, he tried doing the same thing again. He called water once again, with eyes closed.
However, it was different this time, he felt as if someone answered his call. Soon, he felt something cold in his palm. He heard a gasp on his side, probably Mingi. He opened his eyes, to see a ball of water swirling in his palm. Seonghwa let out a gasp himself. The ball was swirling over his palm, in mid air. Seonghwa had seen enough crazy things over the short span of two days. This was just adding to the list.
"Move your palm." Mingi whispered.
Seonghwa did, the swirl of water followed his palm.
"What the-"
Before Seonghwa could complete his sentence, a wave of dizziness took over him. The last thing he knew was the swirl of water splashing on his palm and Mingi saying something. Before he knew it, everything went black.
