It was another Wednesday, Seonghwa was doing his alchemy homework with the others. Mingi came rushing towards them, and put another huge book on the table, with a loud thud. 'Elements: history and magic' it said.
"What now? Another book?" Jongho asked.
"It has the prophecy." Mingi said, almost out of breath.
"Woah! Finally! You found it!" Wooyoung exclaimed.
Yeosang gestured both of them to not be loud, while Mingi flipped through the pages.
"Here," he said, and pushed the book to the centre of the table.
It read,
"Wisdom and desire
shall turn to smoke,
two elements must
answer the call,
the one you call your friend
shall betray you in the end,
while someone betrays
their own blood,
war and weapons shall flood""I would have really appreciated the writing style if it wasn't this scary." Seonghwa said.
"I know right?? What do they mean by war, weapons and blood?" Wooyoung exclaimed.
"There's always some kind of war when an elemental magician is born, they have a purpose." Yeosang said.
"And see? 'Two elements shall answer the call' see?" Mingi said as he traced his finger over the line, "Told y'all there is someone else who does magic."
"Man, are your skills any better?" Jongho asked Seonghwa.
"Um, yeah I guess." Seonghwa replied.
Which was kind of true, Seonghwa had been practising with water. He had discovered he had no problem breathing underwater, it felt normal. He was also able to summon bits if water without fainting now. It wasn't much, but it was progress. The waves gratefully graced over his fingers as he wished. The day was slowly coming to an end, Seonghwa was walking towards his lounge, thinking of the prophecy. Ever since they had found it, it was the only thing that mattered. The discussions were only about the details of the prophecy, figuring out each sentence and trying to reach a conclusion.
Suddenly Seonghwa heard a scream, he turned his head. And what he saw made him widen his eyes. A Nefari, charging towards a student who was patrolling. Before the student could run away, the animal had already pounced at bhim. He screamed and screamed. Seonghwa ran towards him, and was about ti take a step to fight the animal when a grey figure swept past him. Next thing, he heard Wooyoung scream, "SAN!!"
Seonghwa saw San charge onto the animal, managing to get the student out of the way. The creature growled every time it tried to bite San, dripping saliva. It violently scratched claws against San's arms, ripping his robes and gashing his skin. The creature was wild, but San was wilder. His eyes threatened the animal. The movements were so swift that Seonghwa couldn't keep a track. And before Seonghwa knew, San had a knife in his hand, trying to stab the animal. More haphazard movements, more blood. Then the animal finally slowed down. San retreated, panting hard. He sat down on the grass, looking at his bloodied hands. He looked up, Seonghwa followed his eyes, towards the Nefari.
The animal evaporated in black vapours. Leaving nothing but some of its blood to be seeped into the grass. There was no time to get things in order, since the physical trainer, Seojoon blew his whistle and told them to disperse. Of course, most of them didn't go. Seojoon stepped in front, looked at the student who was covered in scratched from the attack, he was crying. "Someone from the hospital wing, take him." Seojoon said and two students came ahead and helped him up.
"And you!" Seojoon bellowed, striding towards San. He tried to make him stand by pulling his arm, but San willingly stood up, still breathing hard. His face was blank. This disturbed Seonghwa, why was the teacher furious at him? He just saved a life.
"You know you're not allowed to carry weapons right?!" Seojoon yelled.
San did not reply, he looked down, face lacking any sort of emotion.
"I'll make sure you get a detention for this! Where is the knife?" Seojoon said, his voice loud and full of anger.
San raised his hands, showing nothing but blood. Meaning to say that he didn't have the weapon anymore.
Seojoon scoffed. "You- just meet me in the office tomorrow!" Seojoon said and strode off.The crowd was still there, looking at San. He looked up at them, his eyes saying nothing. A murmur went across the crowd as he did so. And soon they started going away, to their way.
Wooyoung ran straight towards San, "Are- are you okay?" he asked.
San nodded.
"He's obviously not, San, to the hospital, now." Jongho said.
"I'm alright." San said and stood up. He walked a few steps before bending down and retreating his knife from the ground.
"So you knew where it was." Seonghwa said.
San gave him a smile.
"Hey, about all that, afterwards. Please get to the hospital." Jongho chided.
"No, it's alright, just a few scratches." San said.
Mingi came towards them, "San, I know you're educated enough to know those scratches by the Nefarus is poisonous, you have to go."
Seonghwa remembered the types of Nefari he had studied about, how they looked, their shapes and everything. This was a Nefarus type, and what Mingi said was true, their claws had venom, though they were not so strong, they did cause death if not treated.
"WHAT?!" Wooyoung yelled, grabbed San by his arm and started walking towards the hospital, "You fucking wanna die?! I ain't listening to any of your 'I am alright' shit, you are going to the hospital, you like it or not!"They all followed them.
