"Yo Rockford!"
Ronnie's P.O.V
Ever since I moved into my new house when I was seven, I tried to be my neighbor's, Ashton, friend.
I was seven & adorable.
He was seven & adorable.
Yet we weren't friends.

Age Seven
"Hi Ashton!" I walked over to his desk in the classroom. It was the first day of the school year & Ashton was in my class. He never said hi back. Maybe he didn't hear me. "Hi Ashton!" I said a bit louder.
"What do you want?"
"Can I sit by you? It's my first day at this school & I'm kind of scared. My mom said I should sit by you." He had an open seat & almost everyone else was already paired up in a seat. We were going to sit alphabetical by last names but my teacher said to just sit anywhere for now.
"Well my friend Calum is sitting by me so no."
"Oh. Okay. Can I sit by you at lunch or maybe we can play at recess? I don't have any friends."
"Sorry. I already have enough friends so I can't be yours."
Ashton made me very sad. I just wanted to be his friend.
"Oh." I dug my shoe into the ground & I tried not to frown.
I walked away from Ashton & I sat next to a kid named Seth who actually wanted to be my friend.
"Hi!" He smiled at me. "I'm Seth."
"I'm Ronnie."
"I never heard a girl with that name before. It's cool."
"Thanks. Do you think you can be my friend? I don't have any & I'm new here."
"Yea." Seth smiled at me before he gave me a high-five. "We can be friends."

I always wanted to be Ashton's friend while growing up. He was cute. He had a million friends. Everyone in the class knew his name. He had the cool swing at recess & he had the best laugh.
But Ashton didn't want to be my friend.
It took awhile but I finally realized we'd never be friends.
I asked him to play at recess for almost a year, I knocked at his door & I asked if he wanted to come swim in my pool daily & I tried to befriend his friends but then Ashton would tell them not to talk to me so that didn't work either.
Ashton didn't want to be my friend so I decided I didn't want to be his friend anymore either.
Ashton was a girl's name anyway.

"I still don't understand why you & Ashton hate each other." My still best friend Seth asked me at lunch as we sat in the corner at our own table, just us two.
Seth & I were a power team. We pretty much only had each other, at least in school we only had each other. Seth came out as gay a few years ago & our town's reaction wasn't the best so he was stuck with me since I totally accepted him for how he is when everyone else turned their backs on him.
I, on the other hand, do not have many friends because I'm pretty quiet. I'm fairly innocent, which is completely unlike my entire school who like to party, drink, stay out late & once I found a friendship in Seth, I just stuck with him.
