After walking the very short distance to my new job from where I was outside of Burger King, I realized something really important.
I'm gonna end up being recognized in there so easily. I'm sure my face is all over the news, and the whole country will probably end up knowing who I am and what I apparently did.Well, whether or not that happens, I had to try. I can't do anything without money, even eat. I should've grabbed my money before leaving. Ha, wouldn't it just be a miracle if I happened to leave money in my back pocket?
For the third time within this night, I stood in the resting area of The Chatterbox. The place was empty, seeing as it was past 10:00pm. Even the workers had left, except Jaehyo was with a customer. But as soon as he saw my dyed-ginger hair, he looked over in my direction.
"Raekyo!" I heard him yell out a name, and then I remembered, that's what he thought my name was. The guy with him glanced at me and turned back. We made brief eye contact, but I awkwardly looked off.
I walked over to the counter, and he finished talking to his customer. It seemed to be a guy, about 20, with naturally brown hair.
"Seeya Jaehyo!" The boy waved at him before turning to exit.
"Bye, Pyo!" Jaehyo called back. He then turned to me, but I questioned.
"Pyo?" I asked, shortly giggling at the simple name.
"Yea, it's his last name." He chuckled, "We refuse to call him 'Jihoon'. It's so weird."
I raised my eyebrows, though I didn't understand why we were being so blunt with each other. I continued to question, "We?"
"Oh, just the guys we live with. Come on, my shift's been over for 5 minutes. We're closing."
He led me past the counter into a room past the kitchen. The room just seemed to be a break room with a couch and a coffee machine, much smaller than the ones out in the kitchen. There was also a mini fridge.
"So, here's your schedule. I guess you start tomorrow morning, at 8:00am, and you work until I come in at 12:00pm."
I looked at my schedule. I worked Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Each day, I worked 1st shift, which was like he said, 8:00am (opening time), until 12:00pm, when Jaehyo apparently comes in.
"Wait, you work from 12 to closing time?" My eyes widened at realization.
He chuckled at me, "No, I just worked an extra shift today. Gejo quit today, so I filled in his shift today, but you'll be filling in for him for now on, if that makes sense."
I nodded quickly, understanding. "So you work from 12 to...?"
"Oh, I work from 12:00 to 5:00. They're probably gonna move me soon, though."
For a brief moment, the two of us just sat in utter silence, staring at each other. I realized I was looking, and I began to notice some of his features.
Jaehyo had shaggy brown hair, pretty tan skin, deep brown eyes, and a rather muscular, almost square jaw. But when he talked, he kinda pushed his lips out farther, which evened out the balance.
Then I remembered, he was a live person who was fully aware I was staring. I looked down at my paper again, spilling out an awkward cough/laugh, and I felt my cheeks heat up.
"Okay, so do you want me to like, call you in the morning and make sure your up in time, just tomorrow?" Jaehyo asked, scratching his neck and looking at the wall behind me.
I was about to respond, but it had just hit me that I had no place to sleep tonight. What the hell do I do now?
Even if doing this risks my life, I have to tell Jaehyo. Jiwon already fucked up my life enough, Jaehyo won't do any worse, surely.
