A/N: ^This is how Chris and Gordie look now!^

Gordie's POV

This year had been the worst year for Chris. He got the worst beatings off his dad and whenever my mom asked about him I had to lie and tell her he's okay and nothing's been happening. Chris came around more often even with my dad in the house, he snuck through my window after everyone was asleep. That was until Chris' dad [Richard] had noticed that Chris had been sneaking out so Chris has had to stop coming to mine as often. If Richard had seen or heard Chris come out late then when he got back he was in for it.

See Eyeball had gotten his act together and left Castle Rock with Ace, Penny and his girlfriend [Suzie] so Richard no longer had his first punching bag of a son -as he saw them to be- now Chris got every bit of his rage. However earlier this year I got a job and I have been saving about $140 dollars of each month of my wage so I could get us outta here. My dad had paid for my drivers license even with my mom paranoid because of what happened with Denny and to be honest the only person who helped me actually get through those were Chris. My dad bought me a 1961 AMC/Rambler, which I wasn't really surprised at because he only wanted to show off his wealth through me. I did appreciate it though because now me and Chris had late night drives and we could leave Castle rock easier.

Sunday- 1963 April 7th

Today I decided to have Chris over for food and he was more than happy to come. My dad was out and my mom was with him. This is after church I mean, I still have to attend church with them every Sunday. After Church I usually drive home while mom goes out for tea with her friends and my father goes where ever he pleases.

Church had finished so I went to pick Chris up from his dad's place and he had been beaten to the point I had to help him get in the car, his dad followed him to the door shouting shitty things to him I'd rather not repeat. Then something was threw my way, a beer can, that made Chris real mad so mad he in fact threw the can back at him and shouted anything he could at him before I got in the drivers seat and drove us away from Richard's madness. I set my hand out between us and he clutched onto it like his like depended on it.

"We'll get outta here.. One day Chris, One day I promise you," I held his hand gently and lifted it to give it a kiss. He smiled along to me.

"I'm glad you think so Gordo.."

After the drive we arrived at my house, nobody was in, I let Chris walk in first and he went straight to the bathroom to clean up his cheek. When I got upstairs to the bathroom I realised how much of a chunk out of his cheek was gone. He had raw skin oxidising which must've killed him. I walked over, kissed his fore head as he stood with his hands spread on the sink and his head hanging.

"I love you,Chris." He beamed his smile towards me," When you're ready let's go to my room and get a bandage on your face."

That's what we did. He came and sat on my bed while I fixed up his face and after I fixed his face I proposed a suggestion to him,

"Why don't we apply for University?"

"University? We're hardly out of college-" he let out a sigh," And how am I meant to afford University?"

"Scholarship? You're smart enough I just know they'd accept you in a Law course!"

"C'mon I know you have confidence but there's no point in getting it up if its just going to disappoint you later." He said that with defeat," Anyways I'm doing okay"

"Chris you're not doing okay.. Look at your face-"  I went to hold his cheek but he flinched away.

"Gordie I can't just up and leave.. Not everything can built on hope, somethings have to be planned and you have to see every out come." Chris looked defeated at this point..
