For some reason, when I reached the classroom the next morning, Junkyu, Jihoon, and Jeongwoo were sitting around Yoshi.
"Hey Haruto, come over here," Jihoon said brightly, motioning for me to join them. I obliged, looking at the cards spread out in front of Yoshi and Jeongwoo.
"What's this? Tarot cards?" I asked, although I already knew that it was."He's really good at reading tarot," Junkyu pointed at Yoshi, who gave a small smile. "He read it for me and my girlfriend."
"It's not so good around here, so we wanted to check," Jihoon explained.
Jeongwoo picked up three cards from the spread in front of him, and handed them to Yoshi curiously. Yoshi set them on the table faceup.
The first one depicted a snake slithering over a throne.
"You have a timid spirit," Yoshi said, smiling.
"That's true," Jihoon said, gently bumping Yoshi's arm affectionately.
"Even I can guess that," I said, laughing. It was true, and rather obvious."And..." Yoshi murmured, then hesitated. The second card had pictured a dark gate to a graveyard, a demon standing in front of it, harsh daggers littering the ground.
"What is it?" Jeongwoo asked.
"You should keep a low profile for a while."
"Huh?"
"You see these swords? Danger will torment you," Yoshi said quietly.Jeongwoo looked agitated and annoyed. "I'm leaving." With that he walked away.
"Then next is Junghwan?" Jihoon said, but Junghwan was asleep over his desk.
"What's wrong?" Jihoon teased. "It's only morning and you're already drained?"
"Don't mind me," Junghwan mumbled. If he didn't get any sleep the night before, he shouldn't have terrorized my friends. He paid the right consequences, if you asked me."Then... I'll go next," I offered. I sat down in the chair in front of Yoshi's desk.
"What do you want to know?" he asked me simply.
I thought for a moment before replying, "My... future?""Then, think of your future and pick three cards."
I carefully slid three cards out from the spread. Yoshi turned them over slowly, and when he flipped the last one, he stared at it in confusion and - was it shock?
"What?" I asked.
Before he could answer, a teacher walked in and said agitatedly, "Hey, the bell rang a while ago! Hurry up and sit!"
"Tell me later," I quickly said, then ran over to my desk.
While the teacher was explaining about an upcoming exam, I heard Yoshi say something that made my blood (or whatever ghosts had) run cold.
"This... is not the sign of a human..."
No.
Now three people knew who the ghost was - Jaehyuk, Asahi, and Yoshi. The question was, why didn't they do anything about it?After the teacher left, Doyoung stood at the front of the class.
"As you know, there will be a spring festival soon," he announced. "Our class has been selected to run the haunted house booth."
There was a sudden amount of complaining arising from the people in the class.
"Why the haunted house?" Junkyu sighed, "What a creepy coincidence..."
"I know," Yedam agreed, "Isn't this a haunted experience already?""Make sure to tell me some ideas on how to decorate," Doyoung continued.
"Tell the class ghost to do it," Junghwan said suddenly. "Whoever it is would do a great job."I held back laughter - me, decorate a haunted house? I wasn't a scary ghost - was I? The scary things were all Junghwan himself - unless you count the first night, during the bunshinsaba.
"How about making it a game?" Yedam suggested. "Clearing missions..."
"Ooh, that sounds fun," Jihoon said excitedly.
"Like in horror games!" Yoshi smiled."That sounds fun!" Hyunsuk said. "What about the makeup?"
After a second, Mashiho exclaimed, "Me! I'll be Toshio!"
"I'll be Annabelle!" Junkyu said happily. Suddenly the class was a mess of people calling out ideas and laughter, and even Doyoung looked like he was enjoying himself.A thought suddenly ran through me like a knife.
What if I be in the haunted house... as a ghost? Could I be myself for once, and no one would care? Or even notice?
What could I do?
