Caroline

And I woke up the next morning in my apartment. I was confused, dazed, and curious. It couldn't have been a dream-- my arms were scarred but nothing terrible. The outfit I was wearing yesterday was still on, but my blue silk trench was lying on a chair beside me, a little torn with a button missing.

So many questions rose-- who were those men, where had I seen them before, how did they know me, what did they want, and the one acheing question was who was the one that saved me so many times.

I turned on my news as normal and realized one of my questions was about to be answered.

Reporter: "If you haven't heard yet on the streets, which I'm assuming you have, rumors of the city philanthropist in black have been confirmed. He keeps himself anonymous, but has been reported to perform countless deeds against criminals and still remains silent. The real question is who is this guy?

"It has been told he has been seen in a black armour, face covered with a mask with ears and a black cape."

A picture appeared of a black figure mid-air at midnight, appearing to be jumping off a building with no concern at all.

Reporter: "He has been seen to 'fly', but that is not yet confirmed. Key members of the NYPD refuse to put forth any information.

"So is this the next Superman, or just a political stunt? More tonight at 6 pm central."

So I wasn't going crazy. He's real.

I wanted to know who he was so badly, it was eating my insides. The way he always wanted me to look at him when I was dazing, it felt like a dream. But now I know it wasn't a dream. I told myself I shouldn't think about a stranger this much, but I couldn't help my little crush.

"Oh please Michael. You'd never do it." I said, I wouldn't let him know my hands were slipping off the edge themselves with the nervous sweat. I gripped tight to the concrete wall and leaned against it looking confident, no matter how nervous I was. I HATED heights.

"One little finger and you'd fall to your death." He smirked to me, "And it's Joker now. But I assume you already knew that."

I gulped. Part of me wanted to jump off myself, another part wanted me to run. But I'm part of an experiment. I need this to happen.

"What do you want Michael?" I said to annoy him.

His horrible caved-in smile said, "Another thing you already know. I want the girl."

"Seriously though! Everyone wants her! She's not even prettier than me!" I sighed.

He laughed again. "What do you have that I would want Ivy?"

"Well. That's for me to know and for you to learn when the time is right."

"No no Ivy. Keep going. Tell me and maybe I'll want you instead. You are a nurse and science major. I wouldn't be surprised if you had something useful to me."

"Oh I do. But I'll use it when Gotham needs it."

"Ivy don't you see? The end of Gotham is now. Villains are rising and we're stronger than ever. Our little city is gonna fall apart and you'll wish you BEGGED to join me!" He laughed that horrible laugh. "Who can fly that isn't a bird or plane or pig even?"

"This is stupid. I don't know."

"You better hope it's you!" He snickered and with one push I was flying to my death.
