Gotham City, Carolines Aptmt.

I haven't gone back to school since the day I snuck out. I called in sick each day because all I can think about is Zayn, I cry so much that I'd be embarrassed to go to school looking blotchy and watery- eyed. That moment keeps replaying-- me holding him and the look on his face and how in his last moments it was me he was talking to.
And he can't even have a proper funeral because he has no family that could pay. I'd give all I had for that but I'm considered too young to pay by law.
I have no friends, I've been totally alone watching tv and reading for a week.
Besides that, I make daily trips to the city jail. Tomorrow is Caitlin's trial to testify for Zayn's murder. I'm the only witness.
During visiting hours we talk about some way we can turn the story around and make them believe it was Penguin. I know it was-- the stories matched. Tall blonde with an odd lump when he walked.
Zayn deserves this.
I can't help wondering where the one that saved me twice was when he was shot.
I decided to read the only book in my house I hadn't read in completion yet-- my science textbook. As I turned the page it slit my finger, a small puddle of blood raised from my skin.
I stared at it, wondering how bad it felt to be shot in the chest. The thought made me shiver, I stood up to get a band aid from the cabinet.
I ripped off both sides of the plastic and when I looked back down at my finger, I couldn't find the small cut.
I moved my hand around, and looked at the other one; nothing.
The cut had healed already, I smiled from confusion as I pictured his black uniform and cape, wondering why he wanted to protect me so bad.
Gotham City, City Jail

I was sleeping on the cement floor when there was banging on my cell bars.
"Hey. Get up." Gordon said.
"What why?" I said sleepily, getting up.
"We're moving you to a different cell. I think Axe Girl is too dangerous. Let's go hurry."
"Thank you." I nodded, he led me down the dark hallway.
We made a right turn, down a lighter hallway this time.
We walked past little glass- walled rooms. They had a sink and a chair and white tiled floors; the people in them looked more like people than the monsters in the cell wing.
"This is a safer environment. It's for suspects, not actual crime committers. If we find out it was you, you'll go right back there."
I told him I understood and he locked me in the glass room.
I tried to go back to sleep, but I felt someone staring at me. I looked at the guy in the room to the left.
He was pale white like me, his hair electric blue. He pretended he wasn't looking.
I tapped on the glass. "Hey."
"Hi. I'm Michael. You're nice. I mean you look nice. I mean you're nice looking. For someone in jail. I mean, hi." He smiled and looked away.
"I'm Caitlin."
"What're you here for? You kill someone?"
My eyes widened. "No. Never. I hung out with the wrong crowd and I ended up dating a villain. And now I'm being tried for killing this guy and it was my boyfriend, and he hasn't even come to see me and he knows I'm here and he won't confess. He watched them handcuff me and now this girl who used to be my friend is in danger because he wants to kidnap her and I was a part of it and now I feel awful and I have no friends because all my friends were his friends and he never really loved me and now depending on how tomorrow goes I could be in a cell for 20 years and I have too many clothes that I've never worn and..."
I stopped. "Sorry. You don't have to listen to me blab I just haven't talked to anyone in two weeks."
"It's fine. And try five then you get crazy." He laughed.
"Why are you here?"
"I robbed a CD store a couple times because my parents don't have money and I live with my brother who is never sober and I just want attention. It's stupid I know. They're trying to decide if they're gonna send me to a boys home somewhere upstate."
"Hey. You don't need to steal for attention. You seem like a good guy and it's not worth it. Try something else for attention. Put your feelings on paper. Rent a guitar."
"Thanks. I'll try that if they let me out."
"Just remember the girl you met in jail when your famous. Hook me up with some tickets." I smiled.
