When was it when I first learned the truth of this world?

Ah, yes, it was on that day.

Although I remembered it very clearly, my vision was hazy as I recalled the memory, perhaps in a desperate attempt to stop myself from reliving that nightmare. Only glimpses of blurred remembrance came to me.

A scared boy...

Intense rage...

The cold...

A black-haired vastayan clutching my shirt as she cried.

It was on that day I learned I didn't earn my strength. I just had more to lose.

But the lesson that I learned on the second day. That one was far worse.

Ahri POV

It had already been three days since (Y/N) was admitted to the hospital. The firefighters deemed that only (Y/N)'s room suffered any severe harm. There was some small smoke damage on the eighth floor, but the building was structurally secure enough to keep living in.

I yawned sleepily as I left my bedroom, a sweet smell of pancakes luring me out. I saw Akali already at the table, taking small bites of her portion. Kai'sa emerged from the kitchen with a pan, from which she emptied another serving of pancakes onto a plate that she set on the table.

Kai'sa: "Good morning Ahri."

Ahri: "Hey Kai..." Ah, my voice was a lot weaker than I intended. I languidly slumped onto the chair, adding a strawberry jam to my breakfast.

Akali: "Evelynn's already left. She said she wanted to get started on the new song, so we could get the EP released."

Ahri: "Right."

Ever since that night, Evelynn threw herself into more work. She seemed really dead set on calling the new song 'More'. I wasn't sure where that resolution came from, but I wasn't going to be the one to judge her. I smeared the jam with my fork listlessly, and I must've let it show on my face, because Kai'sa sat down with a plate and held my hand comfortingly.

Kai'sa: "He's going to be okay. The doctor told us that."

Ahri: "Yeah," I affirmed, a not-very-convincing smile gracing my lips, "yeah."

For a while, I thought about my relationship with (Y/N). That night of the party, he asked me if I was looking at the present him or the memory of him. I didn't have an answer, and I was too afraid to find one. But now, this pain in my heart, this unbearable tightness in my chest when I think about him, serves as my answer enough.

All this hurt was a testament to my feelings. Who was I to deny what my heart was telling me? My feelings haven't changed (Y/N). I still love you. I just wish I could've said that to your face.

Akali: "Do we know?" quietly came the ninja.

My vastayan ears perked up at her whisper.

Ahri: "Know what?"

She slammed on the table with her fist, clattering the plates and cutlery.

Akali: "WHO DID THIS!"

Her chair flew back as she shot to her feet, an indignant scowl on her face. But I saw it in her eyes, an undeniable anxiety that slowly ate away at her. She only mentioned it in passing when she was extremely drunk, but apparently she lost someone important to her years ago. (Y/N)'s situation must have reminded her of that.
