As I awoke, the shining morning light barely peeking through the drawn blinds, I lethargically raised myself up while keeping my lower half warmly sheltered by the covers. My eyes were immediately drawn to the noticeable absence of a person among the stack of bodies on the bed.
Y/N: "Gone already huh," I whispered to myself, quietly beginning to toss the blanket off me. How Evelynn managed to untangle herself from the others was beyond me, but she always had some strange mystical trait to get things done.
Still slightly groggy, I shuffled out of the bedroom into the living room to hopefully catch at least a trace of the diva as she left, but almost expectedly, there was none. She had disappeared from us completely. However, there was one surprise that awaited me, and he sat sipping a mug of coffee reading a newspaper at the dining table.
Mundo: "Good morning (Y/N). You're up early."
Y/N: "Mr. Mundo," I greeted with surprise, "yeah, I suppose I wanted to at least catch Eve on her way out."
The executive took a sip of his coffee.
Mundo: "Shame, just missed her. Mundo was having a talk with her just now."
Y/N: "A talk?"
After standing around for a bit, I finally took a seat across from the large man, the strong bitter aroma of his beverage tickling my nose as I did. Mundo simply nodded to my prompt, flipping a page of his newspaper.
Mundo: "An idol leaving her group is a very big thing. Especially so sudden as this."
I crossed my arms on the table and spared a glance over to the sofa. In particular, I gazed at the chair that Eve always sat in, scrolling on her phone as she complained about whatever bothered her that day. It felt almost empty now.
Y/N: "I can imagine. Do you know why she left?"
Mundo paused for a bit.
Mundo: "It is not Mundo's place to say. That is something that you should hear from her." His muscled arms folded the newspaper over and laid it square onto the table, unequipping a pair of reading glasses that seemed much too small for his massive frame and placing it atop the print. "How are your eyes?"
It seemed like he wanted to change the subject, so I didn't pry.
Y/N: "They're all but healed. Sometimes they get a bit blurry, but all in all, I'm fine now."
Mundo: "Mundo is glad to hear that. A terrible thing you had to go through."
I shook my head.
Y/N: "It wasn't that bad. Though, I'm surprised I healed so quickly. I suppose I've always healed quicker than normal for some reason. I'm ready to return to work."
Mundo's bulky fingers stroked his chin.
Mundo: "Think."
With his usual deep tone, that was all he uttered. For a moment, I was waiting for him to continue, but I was left only with confusion when his eyes bore right into mine with inquisitive intent.
Y/N: "Think?" I echoed, puzzled.
Mundo: "Mundo has lived for a long time. Seen a lot of things. Experienced a lot of things. You're different now, aren't you?"
I tapped a finger on the table, wondering what he could've been talking about until I remembered that I had recently disclosed my past to the others.
Y/N: "...Yes."
I certainly wasn't living with the same weight on my shoulders as I did for all those years.
Mundo: "Mundo could tell. Back then, you smiled, but your eyes did not. Though, Mundo understood your resolve and thought that a managerial assistant position was alright for you. If the girls trusted you, I did too. But your eyes are brighter now, so are you sure that you want things to be the same?"
