Five Years Later

"Congratulations, dear!" Aunt Eloise expressed as she hugged me tightly. "I'm so proud of you."

"Thanks, Aunt Eloise," I responded. After she pulled away from the hug, my cousins, Stephanie and Harry hugged me and expressed congratulations as well.

It was a hot day in May and the campus at Colombia University was buzzing with graduates, participants and family members. As my cousins and I talked, I looked around me at the crowd of people chatting and laughing. As I scanned the crowd, I spotted Carson and his parents talking. A little away from them were Carson's friends who came to support me. We had become very close friends as well.

My attention then came to the snack table where my friends were. Eli, Tracy and Lucas' girlfriend, Rebecca were there as well. They were all with me earlier and we took a lot of pictures, but they left after to find the snack table.

My graduation ceremony was a long but great one and I was glad that I had family and friends to come to see me and share the celebration of my graduating from medical school. The ceremony ended half an hour ago but everyone was mingling and lounging around their friends and family.

I returned my attention to Harry, "I really wish you could stay longer." I lamented, expressing my regret about him leaving tomorrow. I haven't seen Harry in a long time because of distance and our busy schedule. However, I see Stephanie a lot as she moved to New York when she graduated from college four years ago.

"Me too, but I have my final exam in two days." He said regrettably.

"I understand and I'm really glad you came," I said.

"There is no way I would've missed it." He remarked smiling.

"Hey, Kayla." I heard Jasmine call. I turned to see her, the rest of my friends, Carson and his parents walking over to us. "Are you ready to go to your graduation after-party?" She asked.

Jasmine had planned a party to celebrate my graduation and invited everyone. It was a great idea because it will give me a chance to enjoy a great time with my family and friends as I haven't seen most of them in a while.

"Yeah, let's go and make a night of it," I answered.

"Isn't this great?" Jasmine sighed as she sat relaxed on a couch with a glass of wine in her hands.

"It is," Kevin answered taking a drink of his. Lucas and I were also sitting on the couch with Jasmine with our glass of wine. Both of us nodded in agreement.

The party was still in progress around us as we sat and talked. The ballroom that Jasmine had rented was huge and buzzing with family and friends, eating, drinking and having a good time.

"So Kayla, where is Carson taking you for your dinner date tomorrow night?" Jasmine asked.

"He's taking me to a boat restaurant," I answered.

Jasmine sighed heavily. "That sounds so romantic." She gushed while smiling widely. I smiled at her. She always and forever will be a sucker for romance.

"Hey Jasmine, get back to us now," Lucas said snapping Jasmine from her daze.

Jasmine glared at him but laughed anyway. "I am here. I was just thinking about how that place sounds amazing."

"It is," Kevin interjected reaching for the bottle of wine on the table in front of us. "I've been there with Tracy."

"Oh, that's great then," I said leaning back on the couch.
