After the interview, it was time for the boys to do soundcheck. I set up the cameras in a few places and just let them run as I work on close-up shots from the general admission section. The boys have gotten bigger since the last tour but not so big where they are selling out arenas.
"Hey sound guys I can't really hear myself during Helena," Ray says as the soundboard guys nod.
"Check. Check. 1. 2. 1.2," Ray says into the microphone and then gives them a thumbs up.
I haven't heard all of the songs yet and this one called Helena is amazing. It is high energy but sad and dark at the same time. Sometimes even I am amazed by their artistic abilities. Gerard might be a lot of things, but he is one hell of an artist.
As they continue to play through the album stopping at someone points and skipping parts of others.
A slow melodic riff starts playing causing me to stop in my tracks. My camera is currently pointing right at Gerard and he looks down towards the camera and brings the mic to his mouth
"I never, said I'd lie and wait forever if I died we'd be together. I can't always just forget her, but she could try," Gerard says as I feel him burn the words into my soul. The music get's louder and I just drop my camera and stare at them.
"At the end of the world or the last thing I see you are never coming home, never coming home. Could I, should I? And all the things that you never ever told me and all the smiles that are ever, ever," Gerard screams into the mic.
I feel myself being drawn into the song. Like a siren calling to men at sea. I feel every word rip through me with so much force that it is hard to focus on anything. The strongest feeling I have though is the pull toward Gerard. His eyes have not left mine besides to close his and sing the chorus.
"If I fall. If I fall. down," Gerard says. At that moment it felt that everything else faded in the room. That the lights that covered the stage had disappeared and there was just a spotlight on him. He normally owns that stage and is very theatrical with his movements. At this moment, he is still, unchanged, and almost vulnerable.
I am forced to blink out of my trance as he belts into the microphone once again and I look toward the other boys. Frank is having a blast on stage doing his thing, Ray is just harmonizing with Gerard doing background vocals, and Mikey... Mikey is staring at me with a disgusted look.
"Sugar are you going to do your job or are you just going to get a free exclusive concert," I hear Gerard say into the mic. I shake my head quickly and lift the camera back up to see that I just filmed the back of the venue upside down for 2 minutes.
"I'm taking a five-minute break. Do what you want," Mikey says ripping out his bass from the amp and walking off. I feel my face turn red as Gerard just looks at me smirking. Like he knew what he was doing and is proud of it.
I walk over to the cameras and turn them off for a moment and walk out to the back for some fresh air.
"Pull yourself the fuck together Y/n. You are fucking embarrassing yourself," I say to myself leaning my head against the brick wall before sliding down. I normally don't smoke and hold onto a pack for the boys when they forget, but at this moment I needed one.
I take a puff of the cigarette and close my eyes before slowly exhaling letting my nerves calm down.
"Never seen you do that before," I hear a voice say. I turn to see Richard standing outside with his own cigarette.
"Ya well first tour date jitters," I say holding it back up to my lips. He let out a little laughing before squinting and taking his own drag.
"Ya know. I might just be the security guard, but I do see a lot. Even when I don't say anything," he says. I feel my heartbeat quicken a little at his statement. What does he mean by that?
