Strolling through the halls of the RedKeep never truly became dull, not when her destination led to such treasures. She twisted and turned quietly acknowledging the guards with a nod and tiny smile. She didn't believe she could she could give them anything else. Not when they guarded her treasures with such pride. When she reached her destination , the heavy doors exiting the keep and leading to the gardens were pushed open before she could even say another word. A grateful smile later and she came upon a beautiful sight.
There they were, her daughter and son sitting on a picnic blanket while Daenerys watched them with pure love in her eyes. Something must've alerted the dragon queen to her presence because their gaze met, at first their was the warmth , the love, the care — the familiar fire she adored. Before the look was replaced with a subtle coldness, a coldness she didn't think she didn't deserve but hurt regardless. Daenerys was the flame that burned wildly in her heart, no matter how much she wished it. She was a bit more God than human..
Her god soul etching deeper into her bones than humanity ever could.
No matter whether she said she loved her two wives the same.. it was not true. She adored and loved Clara yes, the girl gave her simplicity, she gave her something she believed she would've had if she stayed on earth and followed through with becoming a world renowned double certified surgeon. The woman she could eventually settle down with. Clara was her last tether to the world she came from.
Daenerys Stormborne Targaryen was fire and blood. Her house's words through and through. The moment they met she fell inlove , the moment her eyes met that violet gaze , there was no returning, she would sacrifice every part of her.. she would if it meant keeping Daenerys happy..
The fire and blood the woman so frequently embodied, seeped into her own blood and ignited it with fire, dragon fire, scorching flames that could never be extinguished.. yes this woman was undeniably her tether to the universe, without her?
What could she be?
Without Daenerys she wouldn't be here, she wouldn't be staring at her violet gaze , she would be lost.. the thought only reaffirmed her previous thoughts. She could never lose her, never no matter what.
Their eye contact broke when two small bodies slammed into her legs. She fought the surprised laughter bubbling in her throat but when her gaze fell the two pairs of eyes staring back at her with love and excitement.
She could not, she laughed and bent down to meet the sight of her children. Her lips curving into a gentle smile, gone was the tumultuous emotions plaguing her, gone was the uncertainty in her eye, replaced with her affection and love for the son and daughter before her.The simultaneous calls of 'maman' had her smiling even wider . "My beautiful princess and handsome prince" she cooed affectionately. She placed soft kisses to their heads , Draco's messy yet white luxurious locks and Auroras white blonde hair..
"Have you been enjoying your mothers attention Hmm?" She asked softly. Her gaze unwittingly trailing to the dragon queen who watched the scene . The love once more in her eyes shining through yet also accompanied by a sadness, a longing Alex knew all too well. She steeled herself against the look, forcing her attention back to the two excitable children, that spoke rapidly, the sentences bundled and messy but she understood they thoroughly enjoyed it.
"Mother says we're going to dragonstone?" Her two year old, wise beyond his years and their maturity and advancement never surprised her, their minds matured quicker than that of a human, they picked up things faster. She couldn't forget the trouble they both caused when they were only a few months .. shaking her head she stared at her son and daughter who gave her expectant looks.
"Yes, your mother believes its time for you to see the other half of your heritage." She paused with a glance at Aurora "both of you, when the time comes for me to choose who will succeed me , they'll be going to dragonstone to prepare.." she sighed inwardly trying not to get into such complicated matters now. Though her son wore a slight frown, her daughter was more vocal.
"What if we don't want it?" The innocent tilt of Aurora's head gave Alex pause. She glanced at Daenerys who'd been close enough to listen but said nothing. She sighed and carried her children to the blanket. She took a seat beside Daenerys, tension or anger didn't matter. They would put aside their differences when it came to their children.
Alex prepared her speech, she wanted to tell her children they could be whatever they wished but that was a lie, another reason she never wanted to rule, was because her children would be beholden to duty.. a duty they needed to complete ..
"The throne, the seven kingdoms is mine to rule alongside your mother. We have fought for it, we fought so that we could bring Westeros into a brighter future, my reign started only because your mother" she paused looking at Daenerys "your mother believed I was the right queen to rule despite her being an amazing queen herself.." she said quietly "but Draco" she stared at him before shifting her gaze to her daughter "Aurora .. I wish I could tell you that you could be anything you wished, anything you wanted to be, a painter, a healer , a maester .." she sighed with a sad smile "but duty trumps desire.. as prince and princess you have a duty to the people .. and that duty.." she noticed their intent stares "that duty is one I cannot allow you .. either of you to leave.."
Draco stared at his hands, Aurora offered a confused look, not truly understanding, her brother had a surface understanding too. Alex noticed it all, the woman beside her spoke up for the first time since her arrival . Her soothing tone caught the attention of the children.
"But that won't be for a very long time, so for now all we wish is for both of you to enjoy your childhood. In time you both will come to see the honor .. it is to serve the realm.."
Alex nodded agreeing with her wife , she offered a small smile toward her wife. Daenerys gave her one in return but it wasn't the one she wished for, she could still see the darkness in those violet eyes.. Alexandra turned to face her son and daughter.
"Will you come with us ?" Alexandra blinked at the sudden question.
"Where to my prince?" She asked not understanding the line of questioning.
"Dragonstone?"he asked with a tilt to his head, the look on his face was adorable.
Alex didn't answer right away, instead she allowed herself to wonder. She knew this trip was important to Daenerys, a trip she needed, they had been having heated arguments, silent ones, where she would leave their bedroom to avoid the woman , and quell the guilt when she arrived hours later only to see the dry tear tracts on her wife's features. She cleared her throat and offered her son a reassuring smile when she noticed her wife indeed flinched ever so slightly at his enquiry
"I'm afraid not.." she said with a sad smile "There is plenty to be done.. and I have a few meetings that cannot wait." She said quietly , the crumpled look on both her children faces made her feel even more guilt.
"But I'm sure you won't even notice my absence when you meet Rhaegal and Drogon for the first time" she said quickly, trying to ease the guilt and sadness reflecting on her children's faces.
as expected the names of the dragons caught both children's attention. They hadn't met the majestic beasts yet, Daenerys didn't want them to when they were young but reaching the age of 2 seemed appropriate.. or well not really , what sane parent would allow their child to meet such a dangerous creature ? In her mind of course she knew there would be no danger. After all her son carried old Valyria in his veins and her daughter carried hers, the connection she shared with Rhaegal were one not only of rider and dragon but mother and son too. Perhaps not as strong as Daenerys but she couldn't believe Rhaegal or Drogon could do any harm..
"Can we ride them?" Alexandra shifted nervously. That question well, was an entirely different matter..and so she did which every coward did and deflected it to her wife who'd been watching with a slightly amused gaze.
"Ask your mother"
The deadly glare she received in turn would keep her awake for nights after.. yeah totally a coward..
