Time, reality, space. Three words that never meant as much as before suddenly meant everything in this single moment.
Alex stared blankly ahead, her knees digging into gravel , every available orifice bleeding. She felt utterly hopeless , despair clung to her like the newest perfume.
All around her wailing screams echoed in her ears, her enhanced hearing could no longer take it.
"I wonder." The cold voice made her look at the figure standing a few feet away from her. "I wonder how you thought this was to end?"
She couldn't speak, her voice refused to work, her throat dry of the screams she released moments prior , instead she kept staring at the man that took everything from her within moments. For the first time she allowed herself to look at the chaos he brought. Behind her the city , the capital city she worked so hard on was going up in flames, as red rain fell from the skies.
Trigon smirked "No answer?" He chuckled at his half sisters inability to speak. "No matter. It doesn't matter .. or maybe it does." He stepped over the bodies lying at his feet, Alex's eye followed his movement , she saw the three bodies lying at his feet, eyes open, staring blankly ahead, a sob tore through her chest at the scene once more.
Her wife's usually silvery white hair smudged with blood and dirt, her white dress stained crimson, her stomach torn open, she could see the umbilical cord of her unborn child. She shut her eyes, willing away the vision, praying, hoping it was all a dream and she'd wake up.
Wake up to the mischievous laughter of her son, the sweet giggles of her daughter. The soft confession of love from her dragon queen.
"It's no dream sister, this is your reality. This is the path you chose." He laughed , his cold laugh echoed in her ears "This is what you wrought when you chose to stand against me instead of with me. We could have ruled the galaxies together, we could have been more ..than this.." he gestured to her pitiful state. "Alas , you did not. But don't despair little sister" he sneered "I'm not without mercy."
"What.. what do you want from me.." Alex asked for the first time.
Trigon hummed "What I've always wanted. To destroy father, to use you to do it. Now." He paused staring at the corpses at his feet in disgust "I could make this all go away, I could make it like it was a dream. All you have to do is renounce father, renounce him and join me."
The offer.
Tempting, so bloody tempting but she couldn't spend time analyzing it, not when there was an oppressive voice in her head screaming at her to never accept. A voice that sounded eerily like Clara's.
For once she just wanted Silence.
She wanted silence. She wanted to grieve the loss of her children. She wanted to grieve the loss of her wife. She wanted to disappear. She wanted silence.
So she closed her eyes. Begging for silence, begging for release from the gut wrenching pain.
"So this is it?" That voice again. Maybe fate had a new way of playing tricks. Because Clara was gone. She died birthing their daughter.
"You're not my wife." She said quietly.
A laugh met her ears , one that reminded her of wind chimes. A sound she missed for years, a sound she wished she could hear once more and now she was, but this wasn't the way she wanted to hear it.
"You're right, I can't be possibly be married to a coward." Ah yes this was definitely not Clara "The woman I married was brave, compassionate, kind and filled with love.." Alex opened her eyes , the space she was in, was the very same clearing she spent time in with Clara. They would skiv off work to simply relax back on Caletara.
