I sit silently at my desk in the front row of the classroom. There's no noise anywhere in the room despite there being 26 of us. I stare at the desk blankly. Only one more minute until class starts. There's a whoosh outside and the windows rattle. Right on time. Kayano lifts her head and glances out the window. Squelching sounds in the hallway get closer and closer, setting us more on edge. The classroom door slowly opens as the creature slithers to the podium at the front of the room, setting the roll book down in from of him.
"Now, then. Let's begin homeroom. Class monitor, on your command." The yellow blob says.
"S-Stand!" Nagisa, a short blue haired boy says, pausing afterwards. We obey immediately, whipping out our guns and pointing them at out 'teacher.' No one moves. "Attention!" Another pause. "Bow!" He doesn't even finish speaking before we let loose a hail of hundreds of pink, and supposedly 'anti-sensei' BBs. The creature's figure is distorted as he dodges, the bullets bouncing off the chalkboard and wall behind him.
"Good morning." He greets. "I'll be taking attendance, so please, fire all you like. Isogai?" He says, beginning roll call.
"Present." My friend says.
"My apologies. I'll need you to speak up, what with all this gunfire." The creature mocks him.
"Present!" Isogai repeats, louder this time.
"Okajima?"
"Present!"
"Okuda?"
"Present!"
"Kataoka?"
"Present!"
"Kayano?"
"Present!"
"Kanzaki?"
"Present!"
Okay, you get the gist. This continues until we're all accounted for, our shooting ceasing once we run out of ammo. We pant in exhaustion. All of that and he's still standing...
"All right. Everyone on time, I see." He says, snapping the roll book shut with his tentacles. Then his face turns a reddish orange with a darker circle in the middle. "Excellent! That makes me very happy."
"He's way too fast." Nakamura complains.
"Agreed. How are we even supposed to kill him if he dodged all of that?" I say, pouting slightly.
"So even the whole class at once can't bring him down?" Isogai groans. Yes, we are the students, and that thing is our teacher. And if you hadn't figured it out, we're supposed to kill him.
"Too bad. Not one of your bullets hit me today, either." Our teacher says with a shrug, though he doesn't exactly sound disappointed. "Tactics that rely on sheer numbers neglect individual focus. Be it line of sight, barrel position, or finger movement, each of you was far too easy to read. You need to be more inventive! Otherwise, you'll never be able to kill me. I can speed up to Mach 20, you know?" He lectures.
"But, like, see... There's no way you seriously dodged all of those!" Maehara, my best friend says, pointing an accusatory finger in the octopus's direction.
"I mean, these are just BB pellets. You coulda just taken them on the chin." Sugino says, holding up one of the BBs for inspection.
"Yeah! That's right!" The rest of us agree. Mach 20 or not, there's no way! Then our teacher lets out a sigh.
"Very well. Gather up the BBs and hand them over." He says, reaching forward and taking a gun from Okano. "I told you: these may be harmless to you..." He says, trailing off. Then he holds the gun up to one of his tentacles, shooting it clean off. Holy..! "But they're special anti-me BB pellets developed by the government. If one hits me, it'll slice right through my cells like tofu." He explains calmly while the removed end of his tentacle twitches on the ground. I gape at it before forcing myself to look away from the gory sight. "They'll regenerate a few seconds later, of course. I'm more concerned about you putting a classmate's eye out. No shooting in the classroom unless you're trying to kill me. And I do hope you can kill me— before graduation, that is." He says, sprouting a new tentacle as if it were a normal occurrence while his head adopts a pattern of green stripes.
