"You're an angel."
Those were the words he said to me before it all changed, before he clipped my wings and ran away. That was the last day I was truly happy. Ever since that day, everything has been so overwhelming, too hard to grasp. The only relief I've had since then has been from the constant crying, or worse: the blade.
Going for the blade was the worst mistake of my life. I've gotten sucked into this dungeon of temptation, and the walls are way too high for me to climb out. It's always on my mind. I'm addicted, and I'm one messed up addict.
Moving to a new town might help. At least I'll be getting away from him. Maybe in this town I will no longer have such high expectations. Maybe I won't have to be perfect for everyone else's sake. Maybe I can just be me again, the true Vanessa. Not a fucking goddess from the heavens above.
"Vanessa!" My mom shook me away from my thoughts. "Be of use for once and help unpack." I unhooked my seat belt and got out of the car. Heading for the moving truck, I got a glimpse of my new home. A two-story, white, new-looking house. There was a small front porch and a huge yard. That'll be useful to keep my little brothers busy and out of my business.
I got to the moving truck, starting to look for boxes to carry. I came across two, one marked: VANESSA'S ART SUPPLIES and another: VANESSA'S BOOKS. Those caught my attention. I scooped them up into my arms and started to head towards the front door.
I stepped inside the house and was immediately surprised. This house looked way too high-in for me, my brothers, and Mom. (My dad left two years ago.) It was such a nice house. A huge kitchen with nice appliances, a living room with a flat screen TV already attached to the wall, hardwood flooring, nicely painted walls. I was shocked that my cheap mom would rent such a nice place.
I spotted my mom unpacking things in the kitchen. I decided not to bother her by asking any questions, so I started to head upstairs when she stopped me. "Save the master for your brothers, Vanessa," she said. "Okay," I replied, already beginning to continue my walk up the steps.
There were four rooms on the second floor, three being bedrooms. I figured the fourth was a bathroom. I walked into the first bedroom and wasn't impressed. I moved onto the next one. It looked decent enough, so I decided it was for me. I set the boxes on the twin sized bed that had already been put in the room. I sat on the bed myself and tried to take it all in.
It was the end of May, so I wouldn't have to go to a new school, or socialize with people, until August. The house seemed fine. The neighborhood looked bland, but I knew our house was near the front of it, so maybe it was more interesting down the road. Suddenly, I heard the noises of my twin brothers running up the stairs. They barged into my room with booming smiles on their faces.
"We love it here!" said Charlie. Charlie was annoying at times, but he definitely had a heart. "Good," I said while I started to unpack the boxes' contents onto my bed. "Do we get the master room?" asked Matt. Matt was also pretty annoying, but he was a pretty smart kid. He always had good grades. "Yeah," I answered him. With that, they both ran out of my room, excited to see their new chamber.
A few minutes later, I had emptied both boxes, so I went back downstairs to get the clothes I had, and then back again for the few bits of furniture I had for my room. After I got tired of arranging things, I laid in my bed. I had almost drifted off to sleep when I felt the vibration of my phone in my back pocket. I sat up and got it out. I saw it on the lock screen.
He texted me. Why? Why did he try so hard to ruin me? I read what the text said. Tears began to swell up in my eyes, pleading to escape. That's when it hit me.
