After the procession, the opening remarks, exchange of vows and rings, and the official pronouncement of marriage, Julie and Dad kissed.
Just like that, I had a step-mom. They already signed the custody papers last week, and now it was official. To Dad, Mom was no longer a factor in life.
I was too focused on my thoughts to hear the closing remarks.
Zack started to tap my shoulder because it was time for the recessional. Also known as, leaving the ceremony. All these fancy wedding terms were confusing my brain.
After I left the ceremony, I stood and waited for Zack to make his way through the crowd of people. He wasn't allowed to leave with me, because I had to exit the same way I entered.
Once Zack and I's hands were intertwined once again, we made our way to the canopied area where the after party was being held.
There were dozens of white tables with four white chairs at each. There was also a miniature stage at the front of the whole lay-out. There was also a dance floor and DJ station. The question of how much all of this cost kept popping up in my head.
The food for the after party was to the side of the lay-out. Everyone was crowded around the food, so I went straight to a table.
I wasn't that hungry anyways. Zack understood that I wasn't good with crowds, so he sat down in the chair next to me.
"Do you want anything to drink? I'll get it for you," Zack said.
"No, thank you for being such a gentlemen though," I said, smiling at him.
"You're the only one I'm a gentlemen for," he said, laughing to himself.
"Well, I feel special now," I said, half laughing and half blushing.
"You are special, Nessa." He grabbed my hand and looked into my eyes. This made me smile uncontrollably. "You're so cute when you smile, like a little girl."
"I am not!" I yelled playfully. He was laughing again.
I loved this. These were the little moments that I lived for. These were the little moments that made Zack the most important person in my life. These were the moments that made me fall in love with him even more.
His laugh was my favorite sound, and his smile was my favorite sight. And the way he looked at me made me feel all tingly inside, just like his touch.
"Can I get everybody's attention?" A familiar voice came through the speakers. I looked up on the stage to see Andy holding the microphone.
"The father-daughter dance will be in 30 minutes! Everybody enjoy as much food as you'd like! Thanks again for coming out."
I had completely forgotten about the father-daughter dance. Dad and I took dance classes all last week to get ready for the occasion.
I thought I had it down, but Dad on the other hand, not so much. He had two left feet.
I looked over at the food tables. I saw that most of the people that had been there only minutes ago were now sitting down, enjoying their refreshments. My stomach growled.
"Are you hungry?" I asked Zack.
"Yes. Let's go get some food before your big dance." He let go of my hand and stood up, pushing his chair back under the table.
I got up and followed him over to the food. There was still the same stuff here as before, only there were a few more filling things like pasta salad and a variety of chips.
Zack and I got our food and made our way back to the table we had been sitting at before.
We ate our food in silence for the most part. Apparently weddings make people very hungry.
