I quickly took a shower and changed into black skinny jeans, a Twenty One Pilots shirt, and a red hoodie. I ran downstairs, said bye to my brothers, and left. It was already pretty dark outside. I started to walk down the street, heading towards the entrance to the neighborhood.
I had been walking for maybe three minutes when I suddenly became paranoid. I felt like someone was watching me. This feeling was pretty rare for me, so I was freaking the fuck out. I could feel the presence. I kept turning to look behind me, but nothing was ever there. Was I going crazy? I looked back one more time. Bingo.
A boy around my age, maybe a year or two older, was standing not even twenty feet away from me. At first, I just stared at him, frozen with fear. Finally I gave in to my curious thoughts. "Why are you following me?" I asked him with a shaky voice. He just kept looking at me. A smirk began to form on his face. My heart started beating faster. "What?" I asked, wondering what the hell he was smirking at.
He spoke up, making me jump because I had gotten used to the silence. "You're the new girl, right?" His voice was mildly deep, and it showed no sign of intimidation. However, he had completely avoided my questions. "Yes. Why? Who are you?" The fear was completely obvious in my voice. "Calm down. The neighborhood is pretty small, so when you and your family showed up, I noticed. But my name is Zachary. Call me Zack," he said in an almost comforting tone. He came up close to me. Close enough for me to see his features.
Dark blue eyes, brown hair, slim figure, perfect nose. His jawline was just right, and his cheekbones were defined. He was gorgeous. He noticed me looking at him so closely. Breaking the silence once again, he asked, "What's your name?" I blushed at the thought of him actually caring enough to start a conversation with me. I never blush. "Vanessa," I answered him. "I like it," he said with a smile. "And by the way, you look stunning." I blushed even more. Shit.
"Thanks. So uh, where are you headed?" I asked him, trying not to show how nervous I was. Why was I nervous? "West Avenue. Registering for a summer class," he said. I think my heart stopped beating. "Is it an art class?" I asked. "Yeah! How'd you know?" he asked, his voice showing that he was confused. "That's where I'm headed too. My mom told me about it this morning. It sounded interesting enough." He stared right into my eyes for a minute, a slight smile on his face. Finally he said, still smiling, "Well, may I escort you?" His smile is contagious. "Sure," I said as we continued walking towards West Avenue together.
