We got to my house about thirty minutes later. I opened the door to my house to see my dad all over Julie.

Their faces were merged together, their lips going to town. I didn't need to see that.

"Uh, Dad?" I said trying to get his attention.

When he heard my voice he immediately backed off of Julie. Both of them were blushing.

"O-Oh hi, Nes. What's Zack doing here." he asked, clearly confused, and still embarrassed by the incident I had just encountered. I was still holding onto Zack's hand tightly.

"I invited him to eat dinner with us. I figured we'd have enough food for him, too," I said innocently.

I could feel Zack tense up beside me. He was afraid that my dad would get angry, but so was I, so I couldn't say much.

Julie spoke up before my dad could say anything.

"Of course he can eat with us! Go ahead and help yourself. John, go get the boys!"

My dad went up the stairs without a word. I led Zack to the kitchen, where we got platefuls of spaghetti.

Zack and the whole of my family ate in the living room. Our dining room table was now too small, considering we advanced from a 4-member family to a 5-member family.

The conversation during dinner consisted of Zack's life story and Dad showing off. Aka, it was boring.

I have to admit though, it was a little bit interesting to get to know Zack more.

It was time for Zack to go home by the time we were all done eating dinner. I decided I would walk him halfway home.

He refused to let me walk the whole way back alone, so he let me off with halfway.

He was so protective. Maybe that came with the whole wanna-be cop thing.

We walked out into the night air. It was pretty cold. Maybe it was just me? I was shivering, but Zack acted perfectly normal.

After we had walked for maybe a minute or two, he spoke up. "What's up with your dad?"

I was wondering the same thing, but I wasn't quite sure what he meant. "What do you mean?"

"He was all up on me. Why was he asking me so many questions? Does he not trust me? He didn't act like that when we were both constantly at the hospital." Zack's voice had hurt in it. He felt ashamed that his girlfriend's dad might not trust or like him.

"I'm sure he's just curious. Even if he doesn't trust you, it won't stop me from seeing you." I tried to sound comforting and reassuring, but I sucked at helping people feel better.

"I'm just worried, I guess." He stopped, realizing we had walked halfway to his house.

"Walk back home now. It's too dark and dangerous for you to be walking out here alone."

"But-" He cut me off with a kiss. He wrapped his arms around my torso, and I put mine around his neck, leaning into his kiss.

We must have stood like that for a number of minutes, but it felt as if time had stopped. It always did when I was with him. He was literally my getaway.
