Lunch break had just begun and a bunch of people was seen leaving the classroom to get food. Usually, I would head straight to the cafeteria, but today was different.
I was waiting for Chiaki to approach me, I noticed that she was staring at me ever since the first period. Judging by her bold actions from before, I expect that she would approach me, grab my hand, then shout something along the lines of "Kiyotaka, let's have lunch together, just the two of us." Truth be told, deep down I had a desire for my girlfriend to ask me out to lunch. Unfortunately, all she did was stay put on her desk while staring in my direction.
Guess I have to ask her out myself, huh?
Before I could stand up from my desk, several girls were already approaching her and with that, there goes my chance of having my first ever lunch date.
I ended up having lunch with Sudou and his basketball clubmates, we talked about the recent sports exam announcement and other trivial things.
"Ayanokouji, I thought you were one of us." Said Sudou abruptly changing the topic.
"What do you mean?"
"Don't pretend to be dumb! Not only did you drive Yuriko away from me, but you also made Ishizaki here lose his progress in a matter of seconds!" He answered.
But how? I hadn't even talked to Yamashita before.
"And things were really going so well with Yamashita-Chan..." muttered Ishizaki
"Well, at least you have managed to get yourself a girlfriend." Said one of Sudou's friends.
"Don't worry Ishizaki, Yamashita will come back right to you!" Said the other guy.
"Sigh... I don't really want to talk about this right now so let's change the topic, kay?" Ishizaki said.
The topic of the conversation then went back to the sports festival. Apparently, Ryuuen had managed to 'Convince' class C to make him the ad hoc leader for the sports festival. It will be very troublesome if our class faces off his class. Looks like I had put fuel into the fire, Ryuuen's desire to beat me got even stronger after I knocked him cold back during the special exam.
Classes had just ended and since the school gives everyone a little bit of extra free time, I decided to head to the library. I had expected to meet Hiyori in the library but instead of her, I met someone else completely unexpected.
"Kiyotaka, what a pleasant surprise."
It was my childhood friend, she was sitting at one of the vacant tables while reading a book about chess. On the table was a chessboard with pieces already arranged. It seemed like she was playing by herself.
"Arisu." I said as I approached her.
"Care to join?" She said while pointing to the chessboard
"Sure."
I then sat down across from her and rearranged my pieces. She did the same.
According to the rules, the light-colored side moves first so Arisu will be the one to make the first move.
She moved a pawn to e5, a common opening move.
I responded by moving a pawn to c4.
This move was also known as the Sicilian Defense, even though it was less risky than the Queen's Gambit, it will lead to a pretty dangerous struggle since both players will be fighting for the center.
