Lunch Break, I was in the cafeteria eating with Satou, Hirata, Shinohara, and Inogashira. I bought myself some salmon-filled onigiri. As I was about to grab a bite, Karuizawa who was carrying a food tray approached us and casually spoke.
Karuizawa: "Hey, what do you guys think about this Special Exam?"
Satou: "Considering this school, I'm not even shocked anymore."
Karuizawa: "That's not what I mean, Maya. Have you wondered why would the school hold these kinds of exams? I get that dividing us into teams like that would increase our bond and individual abilities to cooperate with each other. But, why would the school asks us to make some random secret message? It feels like a silly game and the school is just messing with us." Said Karuizawa with a hint of frustration.
Satou: "I don't really give it that much of a thought. I mean... The school won't just hold some random games without considering the effects on the students right? Considering this school is considered one of the best in Japan and all..."
Shinohara: "But don't you think Kei has some good points too? I just don't get it about the secret message thing..."
Ayanokouji: "Actually, encryption and decryption have important significance in our lives. In this digital era, the flow of data and communication needs to be heavily secured in order to make sure that our personal data and privacy are not breached. Without it, things like your password or credit card number could be easily acquired by people with bad intentions."
Inogsahira: "You sure do know a lot of stuff, Ayanokouji-Kun!" Excitement could be seen on Inogashira's face.
Karuizawa: "Dude, it's not like we're all aspiring to be some hackers or something..."
Sigh... It seems like she was weirded out by my statement.
Hirata: "I think Ayanokouji-Kun has got a point, we might not necessarily need the abilities to encrypt and decrypt messages in our daily lives. But, the skills that come with it, such as critical thinking and analyzing are pretty important skills that are quite important to have." Explained Hirata with a gentle smile
Karuizawa: "At least we'll get to spend some time outside of school, even though this school feels like a city, I'm getting tired of not being able to see the outside world. I hope I'll be in the same group as Hirata-Kun..."
Shinohara: "Heeh... What is it, Kei-Chan?" Shinohara was grinning
Karuizawa: "Actually, I'm dating Hirata-Kun!"
Satou: "What? That's quite a surprise, Kei-Chan!"
Karuizawa: "I don't want some other girls to snatch him since he's very popular, so I decided to take him for myself. Well, it was Hirata-Kun who confessed to me first though, isn't that right, Hirata-Kun?"
Hirata smiled
Shinohara: "How come I didn't know about this sooner! How long have you guys been dating, anyways?"
Karuizawa: "It was back in May, we started dating when the first-years were holding the study group."
Shinohara: "First Hashimoto, now Hirata. Ughh... Why is it does all the good guys keep getting taken!"
Inogashira: "But I think... Uhm... no, never mind."
Satou: "Hmm... What is it, Kokoro-Chan? Could it be that you are interested in a certain someone?" Satou grinned teasingly.
Inogashira: "Ye-... No! That's not what I mean." Inogashira's face was as red as an apple, she was trying to hide her embarrassment by putting her hands on her face.
