I stood in the middle of Washington Square Park, staring at the water in the water fountain. Listening to the busy people around me, not a care in the world. They had no clue how cruel it could actually be. I grabbed the sleeve of my jacket, making sure it was pulled down enough to cover the metal of my arm, the only visible part being my hand.
"Long time no see, Soldier." Brock Rumlow walked up next to me. He was wearing plain clothes as if he was trying to blend in. He placed his hand on my shoulder, gripping it as he pulled me to face him.
I turned to lock my eyes on him, looking him up and down, studying him. "What do you want with me?"
"Getting straight to the point are we?" He let out a soft chuckle as he began to walk away from the crowd, pulling me by my shoulder. "Long story short, our new heads would like you to come and work for us. If you comply we won't hurt Osiris. If you don't... that's a whole other story."
"You are acting like I have a choice in the matter when in reality you have this place guarded for miles. If I tried to run you wouldn't let me get far." I kept up with him. A black van caught my attention at a side entrance to the park. There were men standing outside of it, waiting by the open doors.
"That's not fully true. If you don't want to come with us you can simply walk away, but Osiris would suffer immensely, the next time you saw her you wouldn't recognize her, and there's no way she would recognize you." When we got to the van he turned to face me. "If you comply there would be no pain, neither of you would suffer, not even a brain wipe. The new leaders have a new way of looking at these things."
I let out a sigh with a subtle nod. "Fine. I'm ready to comply."
"Ooh, chills!" He let out a chuckle before extending a hand out to me. "Your phone please, and any trackers or bugs. If we find them once we arrive at the compound then this agreement will change drastically."
I took my phone out of my jacket pocket and handed it to him. I had already turned it off so Steve couldn't track me. I wasn't stupid enough to do that, sounded like a recipe for disaster.
"Nothing else?" He hummed softly as he looked at my pockets. "Pat him down please."
They weren't going to find anything, it's like they forgot that they trained me. Why would I show up in a situation like this with anything? Stupid. After they patted me down I got into the back of the truck, taking a seat on one of the benches.
All of the windows were tinted over, you couldn't really see anything out of them, but I stared out anyway. Maybe to see if I would recognize anything. The first thing they did when I got there took me in to see a doctor. It was more, I guess you could say relaxed. Brock escorted me around the compound. They checked out my arm, it wasn't technology that they were used to, from what I believe. They made sure I was in good health and condition, to do their missions of course. After the check-up, Brock escorted me to my cell.
"This is where you will be staying most of the time. If you need anything there is an intercom over here by the door. See you in the morning, Soldier." The door shut behind him as he exited. The lights dimmed once the door shut all the way, enough to make it dark but where you could still see where you were going.
I studied the desk that was at the opposite corner of the wall that the door was on. Next to it, between the desk and door, was a cryogenic chamber. On the opposite side of the room was a cot, and along the same wall was a shower and a toilet. Above the desk ran what seemed to be a mirror looking back at me. It was the length of the wall, running all the way to the door. I took a seat in the chair, leaning back a little to look up at the painfully white ceiling.
"Yes Brock, because I'm going to contact the United States government and turn you in via iPod Shuffle." It was her voice, she sounded so close but so far away at the same time.
"You never know, you could be really techy and I don't know it." Brock's voice responded to her.
I launched myself up out of my chair, walking to the door. I peaked out the window to see if I could see anyone. Nothing.
"I am a super-soldier. I am not Tony Stark." Her voice got closer as I began to hear footsteps coming towards my door. She walked right past me, unaccompanied by any soldiers, all by herself.
I raised my fist and began to pound on the door, each time getting louder and harder. "Mel!"
She stopped in her tracks as if she heard a ghost. She began walking again, a bit faster this time, her sneakers squeaking on the tile.
"Fuck..." I smacked my head against the door as soon as she was out of sight. Did they wipe her? Does she not know I'm here?
