"You got an assignment." The slot on the door of my room opened. A folder of paper and a tablet slid through onto a little shelf where it would sit until I grabbed it.
I got up and walked over to the door, grabbing the stack and setting it on the desk. I walked back over to my cot and laid down, pulling the blankets over my head. "Thank you."
"Be ready for pre-briefing in one hour." The voice said before the slot closed. Their footsteps got quieter as they walked down the hall.
No one really bothered me after the thing that happened with Bucky's arm. Brock hadn't even stopped by to check on me. Probably had more important things to do. Apparently, he needed to set up for our next assignment.
I closed my eyes for a couple more seconds. I haven't left this room since I did that stupid arm thing. Are they actually going to send me out on an assignment with him now that they know I can do that? I rolled over to look down at the desk, getting up to crawl to the end of the bed and grab the tablet off the pile.
Once it turned on a hologram popped up. It was a map of a building somewhere in Jersey, from what it looked like. It began to play a prerecorded version of the hologram, zooming in on a room in the basement of the building. It highlighted a little area in the room.
I got off the cot and walked over to the desk, flipping the folder open to read over the assignment."You will be going in on your own. There shouldn't be too many guards around that area of the building, the tricky part will be you trying to get out. When you get the file information off of the computer it will send an alert out to the company and security, if you don't get out of there fast enough you will get caught." Brock was sitting in the driver's seat of the car, explaining what I needed to do. "The Winter Soldier will be waiting for you on your way out. There is a vent system that you can use to get to where he will be."
"I got it." I said softly as I watched out the window. "Climb out the vent. He will escort me out of the building with the flash drive. Expect heavy fire, if needed give him the drive and make sure he gets out."
"You got this." He placed his hand on my thigh and shook it a little.
I looked over at him, staring daggers into him until he took his hand off of me. "Thank you. I know."
He let out a sigh as he pulled the car over to the side of the road. We were in front of a larger office building in the middle of a city. He got out of the car and walked around to the passenger side of the car and opened the door for me.
I stepped out and adjusted my dress, pulling my coat closed to hide my shoulder holsters on my back. I grabbed my heels off the floor of the car and slipped them on before making my way into the building.
"You will do great, Honey." Brock waved to me before he got back into the car.
I smiled and waved back before going into the building.
There wasn't much security, which was honestly surprising to me. If they have all this important information, where is the security?
I made my way down a couple of stories to the basement. No one really paid attention to me while I was walking through the hallways like they didn't even see me. The only trouble I had was the officer who was posted right outside of the room I needed to get into.
"Hello, dear. How can I help you? Are you lost?" It was an older gentleman. He seemed very friendly.
"No sir. My boss sent me down here to pick something up." I smiled as I leaned against his desk, peeking over to see if there was any information I could use to convince him to let me in.
"Do you know where he said it was? I could help you find the way."
"He said it was in room B35." I pointed to the room number behind him.
"I'm sorry hun. Only authorized personnel can enter that room. If you would like, I can call him and make sure you are at the right place. What was his name?"
"Oh no, sir. He's a really busy guy and I don't want to bother him." I pouted a little. "Is there anything you could do? I'll be in and out real quick."
"Hmm. I don't know. I'm not supposed to really."
I batted my eyes a little as if I was about to cry. "I can't go up there empty-handed. He would fire me."
He got up from his desk and grabbed his keys, going to unlock the door. "No need to cry. Get in and out real quick, no one needs to know."
I giggled, wiping my cheeks as I pushed past the man to get in. "Thank you!"
"No problem, hun. I'll just prop the-"
I cut him off when I pushed the door shut. I could hear his keys jingling as I held it shut. "What happened?! It's not opening!"
He pushed on the door, trying to get it to open. "I don't know! Let me... let me go get help."
I listened to him walk away before I let go of the door and scurried over to the computer in the corner of the room. I plugged a drive into it and it automatically began to download the contents of the computer onto the drive. While it was downloading I looked for the files that I was instructed to grab in the mission description. It was all in Russian, the titles talked about different science experiments that the Russian government had been conducting. No wonder I was in a pharmaceutical company's office building. Once I found them I hurried and grabbed the drive out of the computer, looking around the room to find the vent I was supposed to go through.
Keys began to jingle outside of the door again. "Alright, hun. I got help. Stand back from the door while we get it open."
"Okay, I'm back in here," I yelled a little as I pushed a desk up against the wall. Climbing on top of it to reach the vent. I pulled myself into the vent before pulling the cover back over it.
The door flung open. There was the older man accompanied by a couple of bigger officers, who clearly knew what was going on.
"Sound the alarms. They are here. They have the files." one of the guards said to the other. The other rushed out of the room. Suddenly all you could hear were sirens flooding the building.
I crawled through the vent, making my way toward where Brock said I had to meet Bucky. The vent led to a back alley. Bucky was standing at the end, holding the grate. He smashed it back into place as soon as I crawled out. Grabbing a duffle bag that had been placed on the ground and putting the files and drive into it.
"Follow me." He spoke firm, unfazed by what we were about to do. He led us out into the street where we were met by police.
"Freeze! Put the bag down!"One of the officers yelled at us.
Without hesitating Bucky grabbed a pistol out of the holster on his side, shooting off at the officers. They dropped one by one. The others rapidly shot back at him.
I took my coat off and tucked it into the back. Throwing the duffle bag over my shoulder before grabbing both the guns out of my holsters. I began to shoot at the officers as I walked behind Bucky.
He was backing up, attempting to get us down the alley to a fire escape on the other building. Once he got me to the ladder, I tucked the guns back into the holsters and began to climb.
At the top I dug into the duffle bag, and grabbed out one of the rifles he picked out, shooting at the officers while climbing the ladder. After he got up we both took off running.
The buildings were close enough together so that we could jump from rooftop to rooftop. Finally finding one that had a staircase that led into the building.
He pushed me into the staircase. Shoving me down the halls of this apartment building until he found an empty, unlocked apartment that we could hide in.
"We need to contact Rumlow." He reached for the duffle bag that I had around my shoulder. There was a radio tucked into it. Rumlow always made sure that he put radios in our duffle bags.
I swatted his hand away. "No. We are fine, just wait it out."
If he called for help that meant a punishment. After the last punishment, I was not pushing our luck at what twisted mind game HYDRA had planned for us.
I peaked out the window to look and see if anyone was out there. To my surprise, Tony and Steve were out there. Of course, they were out there. If anyone spots us they are the first to get a phone call.
Bucky was by the door, listening for any police officers. He must have thought the coast was clear because he came over and grabbed the bag, dragging me back out into the apartment. Led me downstairs and out the back door, where we were met by Steve.
"No." I shook my head as soon as I saw him. Mouthing my words to him.
"Melody!" He tried to walk toward us.
Bucky pulled out his gun, aiming it right at Steve's head.
I reached up and grabbed the gun, pulling it to point at the ground. "It is not the time nor the place."
"It's not Bucky, right?" Steve was now holding his shield up to block himself.
I shook my head. "No, we need to go. Call them off now."
Steve nodded a little before retreating down the alley. Disappearing after he turned a corner.
"What was-"
"Not a word Soldier. Don't trust what they teach you. I am the only one you can trust. Please keep this to yourself or they will hurt us."
He nodded a little as if he knew what that meant, what they would do.
I nodded back before walking down the alley. I pulled the radio out of my bag and spoke to it. "Coordinates of pick up, please."
