~Melody's P.O.V.~
After that broadcast, they started leaving my cell unlocked. I don't really know why, maybe they stopped seeing me as a threat when I started acting like I didn't know better. Whenever they would talk to me, or ask me questions, I acted like I was all in.
It was nighttime, all the lights were off in the halls. I opened my cell door and stepped out into the hall, holding my shoes in my hand. Slowly made my way down the hall, trying not to make too much noise to alert anyone. Not too far down the hall was Bucky's room. I walked to the door and gently tapped on the window. I heard soft rustling before it stopped. I pulled a paper clip and a bobby pin out of my pocket before picking the lock, letting the door slip open once I was done.
"What the..." Bucky sat up and looked over at me.
"Shut up." I pushed the door nearly closed before walking over to him, wrapping my arms around him, and squeezing him tight. "Why did you come after me?"
"They were going to hurt you." He grumbled as he pressed his face to the top of my head. Holding me just as tight as I was.
I shook my head, placing my hands on his cheeks as I locked my eyes on his. "I would have been perfectly fine. They are going to do so much worse now that you're here."
"No. They said..."
"James, they have you now. They know they can manipulate you. They don't need me. They could sell me now." I let out a soft sigh. Letting my head fall forward so my forehead landed on his chest. "They can't be trusted."
He let out a chuckle. "I don't trust them. I trust you. And I know that you and I will get out of this."
I shook my head. "You have too much hope."
Combat boots echoed down the hall as a nightguard made his way towards the cell.
I ran over to the window and peaked out, trying to see where he was before ducking under the desk.
Bucky made his way to his cot, rolling over to face the wall in case someone came in.
The footsteps grew louder and louder before they paused. "Osiris has left her cell. Can someone please locate her before she raids the staff fridge again?"
I couldn't help but chuckle as I looked over at Bucky. He has his hand to his face as if he was trying to hold back laughter.
"Don't blame me! One of them brought a strawberry shortcake and didn't share! Rumlow told me I could."
Bucky rolled over to look at me as I crawled out. "We will figure this out, Mel."
"I really hope so, James." I nodded as I walked to the door, slipping out before pulling it closed behind me.I sat on my cot all night, unable to sleep, as usual. I knew that Bucky was drowning in this. He dreaded going through this. I really don't know what they intend to do with us. Would they keep us together? Or separate us?
Around 8 a.m. Rumlow came into my cell, taking a seat on the desk chair they added in shortly after my arrival. "Where did you disappear last night?"
"I just went for a little walk. Had to walk off the damage to my ego in preparation for my next assignment." I smiled slightly as I rolled over to look at him.
"You should be getting that today. The boss wants to put you back in the field with the Winter Soldier. An easy assignment to see how you do together." He sat back in the chair, looking up at the ceiling. "I trust that you will keep him in line. If he does not comply we will take control."
I nodded as I sat up. "Yes sir. He will comply, and the assignment will be completed correctly and as expected."
"Good, little puppy." He stood up from the chair and walked towards the door. "Get suited up and meet us in the meeting room at 10 a.m. sharp."
"Yes sir!"
Shortly after he left a woman came in to give me my breakfast. I ate while I got dressed. This time with HYDRA they decided to smack their logo onto everything. There was a red HYDRA logo on my bodysuit and vest, they gave me black leather boots that went up to my leg to just under my knee, and fingerless gloves, pointless but alrighty then. I also had holsters that wrapped around my thighs and waist, but they didn't trust me with guns in my cell. Apparently, I'm a risk to the staff. After I was dressed I put my hair back into two long, loose, braids. Finishing up my uniform for whatever mission they had lined up for us. I left my room when I was done, making my way to the meeting room, taking my time.
"You're late, Osiris." Rumlow stood at the end of the long table that took up most of the room.
I looked up at the clock, 10:10. I shrugged as I walked towards him, taking a seat at the center of the table, across from Bucky. "Ya, by like ten minutes. It takes a bit to get me looking this good in tactical gear."
Bucky was seated at the center of the table across from me. There was a file on the table in front of him. Behind him were two guards, making sure he didn't try to make a run for it or something. The file was sitting open to the description of the target, it was a long list of the reasons we would be assassinating them.
"This is your assignment information." The older man, who I still don't know the name of, set down a file in front of me as he walked behind me. "This man has been running around spreading the word about us, not to mention trying to predict and hire hitmen to assassinate our next targets. He has been incorrect almost every time, creating unnecessary attention from our followers. Your assignment is to take him, and anyone who gets in your way, down."
I leaned forward over the table as I began to flip through the file. "And who will be accompanying us? I know you aren't letting him go alone."
He leaned over me and pulled up a holographic map in the center of the table. Pointing to different spots on the map. "You and the Soldier will be positioned here, in this building. The Soldier will be sniping him, you will be his lookout. Rumlow and a few of his men will be positioned here, here, and here. If there is a need to intervene they will step in, there shouldn't be though, because if there is, there will be punishments."
I nodded, trying to shrink down as he got close to me. "Yes sir. There will be no need for punishments."
"We will be gearing up and leaving ASAP. It will take a bit of a drive to get to our destination." Rumlow grabbed his file off the table before walking over to the door.
The man stood up before pulling my chair out. "Good luck you two. I expect great things."
I stood up and ran to catch up with Rumlow. Walking closely behind him once I was caught up.
He led us to the armory, where we could pick out our guns. "Pick out what you want. Osiris, you know the drill."
I nodded at him before walking over to the pistols. There were probably two of each gun, and any gun you could think of. They let us pick out our own stuff, thinking that if we picked what we are good with we would do the best work. I mean, they weren't wrong I guess. I grabbed both Glock 17s that I could find, slipping them into my holsters. I then went and grabbed little pouches of extra clips, connecting them to my belt. I met Bucky at the knives, watching what he was grabbing before grabbing the same, slipping them onto my belt. Once I was done browsing Rumlow handed me a duffle bag with an M24 sniper rifle and two M4A1 rifles in it.
He then opened a door that looked straight into the back of a large van. As we got into the back of the van he handed us our face masks. It was a plain black mask that covered the bottom half of our faces, with little slits that allowed air to vent through.
Bucky sat across from me, his eyes locked onto me the entire time we were stuck in the van. Not a word was said from him, just intense eye contact.
We each had a guard on either side of us, holding their guns as if they were ready to aim them in a second.
The ride was silent, like if you smashed your whole family into a van and wanted to go on a road trip... after your grandma died or something.
I leaned forward in my seat, looking up at the front out through the window.
The guard next to me flinched, tightening his grip on his gun.
"Oh calm down, big baby." I climbed to the front of the van, taking a seat next to Rumlow. I reached up for the radio and turned it on. "If you are going to lock us in a van you might as well play music."
"I didn't think it was a good time. You need to focus on the assignment, kid." He didn't turn his head from the road, just kept driving.
I opened the window and rotated myself to lay my head on the windowsill, watching the tops of the building as we entered the city. "Such a beautiful day. Too bad we are going to ruin it."
"Get back in the car." Rumlow grabbed my vest and pulled me so I was sitting up. Closing the window as soon as my head was in so it would fall back against the window.
I rolled my eyes and turned to sit facing forward. "You're a party pooper, Brock. You have to get everyone in a good mood for good results."
"You would think you wouldn't be so cheerful." He reached to turn down the music as he pulled into a parking garage. "Get in the back before the cameras see you."
I huffed as I stood up, climbing into the back of the van and sitting back down across from Bucky. I picked up the duffle back and threw it over my shoulder. Making sure my mask was secure to my face as well as my goggles, they had a red tint on them, covering my eyes so that you couldn't see them.
After a few minutes, Rumlow had parked and opened the back door, letting us all out of the van. "Please go to your assigned buildings. I don't think I need to explain this because I'm pretty sure you all know what you're doing but don't get fucking caught."
I patted him on his shoulder as I stepped out of the van. "I will make sure he doesn't get caught. Do not worry your precious head."
It was almost as if he growled in response. Rolling his eyes as he grabbed my hand to help me down.
I smiled back, walking towards the ramp leading up to the main level, Bucky closely following behind.
"Meet back here once the target has been eliminated!" Rumlow yelled to us.
"Will do. Don't worry." I yelled back as I waved.
The soldiers that stayed with him all spoke in unison, echoing through the basement of the parking garage. "Hail HYDRA."
